Default Forward or Aft?

OK. So if you can't have Midship what is your choice, Forward or Aft? DW and I had a Panorama cabin all the way forward on the Conquest and absolutely loved it. The seas were very calm for the entire length of the cruise. This time we are on the Empress deck to the Aft.

AFT because we were on a Foward cabin on the Conquest.... You FEEL & HEAR the waves crashing on the bow (I was in the Navy).... Even I was concerned at times, sounded like we were hitting a large log..... You also hear the anchor chain or the winches if on the dock.... A LONG walk to the stern (back) ..... I would prefer the mid-ships for the convience to run back & forth to the cabin to take a nap or get something you forgot to take with you.....

We sailed on the Glory in August 2005 to the Eastern Caribbean and we had an AFT CABIN. We loved listening to the sounds of the prop wash and even though we had other cabins around us, the AFT cabin just seemed to be more private

Aft. Although after lots of build up, I was slightly disappointed with our aft balcony on the Miracle. Still, I'd prefer aft over forward.

Definitely Aft! This year was our first time with a forward cabin. Seriously, you feel the movement of the ship so much more. We were traveling from New York to the Caribbean this past summer and I really felt the movement of the ship. If you get sea sick easily, I would advise you to get a room in the Aft!!

Depens on how far forward your are. If you are 15 cabins from then most foward cabin on the deck, then that is OK by me.

That is where I normally book. I do not hear any anchor chains, winch noise ar anything like that.

Winch noise? You mean like:

"Get up off your lazy arses, you scalawag cruisers!"

I have stayed mid-ship, aft and forward and much prefer forward. Depending on where you are forward, there is a lot less foot traffic and noise. As far as movement is concerned, if the seas are rough, you'll feel movement wherever you are on the ship. I avoid the staterooms anywhere near the galley, elevators, or common areas. In the aft rooms, you feel a lot of vibration. Walking from the forward staterooms to the common areas, restaurants, etc., is not a big deal...work off some of those calories.

I think it really depends on the ship, the conditions, etc.

I have never felt any vibration in an aft cabin.

Yes, when the seas are high you feel it everywhere, but in my experience, you feel it a bit more in the forward cabins. I felt movement there that I didn't feel in other parts of the ship even on calmer sea days.

Thanks for the opinions everyone. I must say, we have only sailed once and it was as far forward on the Panorama deck as possible. We not only loved the balcony cabin but being able to go right outside to the forward lounge deck. I was opting for a Aft this time but have asked our PVP to put us all the way forward on the Empress deck this time. We also like the being close to the Atrium elevators.
