Aboard ship, it may refer to a piece of rigging used to secure objects, or to a cord with a hook at the end which is used to fire a cannon.

Ah, ok, well I'm guessing that it's being used here as a analogy to the bungee cord idea as I doubt that there aren't many people firing cannons on cruise ships

But that was in Somalia, is that likely in the Eastern Carribean?

I'm starting to get worried about this cruise....Be careful not to fall overboard, some have lost their lives that way, Hurricane season, and now pirates? I thought this was supposed to be a vacation, not a death trap?!?!?!

It was a joke. Your perfectly fine on your trip no pirates.

Just keep your eye on the weather.

And for the record... People can't just accidentally fall overboard unless they are doing something very stupid while drunk or they want to end it all. Those rails are about 4 feet high. I have pictures of the railings from the balcony and on deck if you want to have a look.

Ok, but you did post a link to pirates and a cruise ship, so ya got me thinking?!?! Anyway, back to the topic of my thread here, now I'm confused about a lanyard again, cut and paste from another one on my threads that someone replied to...

"4. Get a FREE lanyard at the Casino. Pursers desk will punch a whole in it for you. "

So what's a lanyard again?

I googled.. I feel like a dork to not know what these things were called. HAHAHA

http://lanyardsdirect.com/l503.htm?s...yword=lanyards

Its the string you put around your neck that you attach your sail and sign card to so you don't lose it.

Ah, Cool, I put my room number in there in case I pass out drunk somewhere and the cruise staff know where to drag me to.

You're right Dina. I think "Club Carnival" is giving away those "lanyards" so they're really popular on Carnival ships at this point. They are handy, however but you still have to be careful that you're sign-n-sail card doesn't fall out of the little case attached to the lanyard.

It's a strap and that wear on your neck, and you can attach your keys, whistle, camera, MP3 player, (small items) etc. to it. You can attach your Sail & Sign Card to the split ring, but you have to ask the Purser's to punch a hole in it for you. That way, you'll risk misplacing or losing your card.

Oh yes Amaretto, I have seen people with the holes punched in the Sign-n-Sail card attached to the lanyard. I was referring to the lanyard with the clear plastic gizmo already attached which the sign-n-sail card fits into. Club Carnival gives those away, and the lovely Mrs. Jones (Vita) always uses them. They are quite handy, but I like your lanyard with the hold punched better. Less chance of loss of the card.
