Default another insurance question

I know this has been a topic many times on the board, but I'd like to hear some updated news. I just booked a 5 day cruise in Sept. Should I get insurance or chance it? I have always gotten it and never needed it - except one time when we were delayed, yet insurance paid nothing. I checked the insurance with carnival (berkley) and with others I saw online and they are basically the same price - will run me about 200.00 for 4 people for 5 days. What is everyones opinion on insurance (again) and should I - or should I not get it. My ONLY worry really is that it is in mid September which is hurricane season. Thanks all!

Hi Cheryl,

I'd get the insurance, but that price seems a little high to me. On our 10 day cruise the insurance came to a little over $7.00/pp per day. Maybe yours is higher because of the time of year you're sailing?

Did you check Travelguard?

Fern, I just looked up travelguard. It is a better price (137 compared to 196 with Berkley insurance) HOWEVER- the catch is (after reading the fine prints) it is 1/2 the coverage of Berkley - for instance Travel Delay with travel guard is 500.00 where with Berkley it is 1000.00. I found that with the other insurance places I checked out also. I guess its just how much coverage you want - and since I'm going during hurricane season, I'll have to weigh the pros and cons. Hell.......after spending 2300 on a cruise (we are getting a suite) what is 196.00 - right? I hate insurance! Never did understand it and am insurance poor now! Thanks!

Hi Cheryl,

Yes, it seems it's harder to buy the insurance than it is to buy the cruise ! You just have to find what "fits" you and your family and that can be a pain in the b***! My DH works in the insurance industry, and even he would have trouble figuring it out!

Hope you find the insurance that's right for your family!

It's wonderful that you'll be in a suite ! (BTW, that sounds like a great price.) We're hooked on balcony cabins now, but would love to have the "upgrade fairy" visit and give us a mini, a suite or the Penthouse !

I can't say enough about getting the insurance, do get it, too many variables that could ruin a trip and cost a lot. Just get yourself covered. I just returned from a cruise today, spent a whole $103 on coverage for 2 for a 7 day cruise, not bad and worth every penny of it.

Welcome home - I am going to get insurance - just trying to figure out where to get it from. The one that cruisesonly offer seems like a better deal than any, but most say do not go with the company you book your cruise with. I can get it with travelguard for 50 dollars cheaper, but 1/2 the coverage.
