My best friend and I are taking our first cruise to cozumel and were wondering if there was anywhere to get a tatoo in cozumel?

I don't want to discourage you but its safer to get a tattoo at home. The tattoo place you pick down there may not have the same health standards as you might think. People have gotten Hepititus from getting tats down there.

Just make sure they don't reuse the needles and what they use in their inks is very important.

dina put it very delicately, but ... are you serious? The health risks are waay to risky. Save your money and go to a reputable artist at home.

I didn't see any tattoo studios in Cozumel but I'm sure they have them. I agree with Dina and Lisa, find a reputable tattoo studio in the States. Do you have any tattoos? Where are you sailing from? There are reputable studios in Florida that might be an option pre or post cruise. I have lots of tattoos but would never get one outside the U.S.

I agree with all the rest. Mexicans come over the boarder to get safe tatoos. Sorry, not my quote. Cheech and Chong, way before your time.

I'm assuming by your post that you don't already have a tattoo. I only say that because if you did, you would know how important it is not only for safety & health reasons but for reputation reasons. If you want a tattoo you should do your research on artists and designs. If you knwo what you want, you should seek out someone who specializes in that field of artwork. Look at their work carefully and make sure you have total confidence in them before you let them put something that will last forever on your skin.

Just my 2 cents (and yes I'm tatted & proud).....

I agree with the rest of the posters. I too have a few tattoos and besides it being unsafe in a foreign country, just remember, if you get one done at home at a reputable tattoo artist, it will have time to heal before your cruise. Plus going into the ocean or pool will dull the ink on your tattoo if you go into the water too soon after getting one.

, my last duty station was Yuma, Arizona. The guys used to go down to Algodones for haircuts cuz it was cheap and they didn't have to get a Marine Corps haircut. You have no idea how many developed ringworm on their necks. I'd tell yah another thing they all got in San Luis, but I'll leave "THAT" to your imagination.

I'm glad you brought that up! I have tattoos, and may or may not go for one in Florida, but would consider, especially as I am sailing out of Miami. Depending on price, but it wouldn't matter any way as I am sure they are backed up like crazy, but...Miami Ink! I watch their show all the time and would love to just go there and see the place. Anyone know how far that is from the Miami port?

I don't know where the Miami Ink shop is located. I heard it was near South Beach...if so, it's not that far from the Port. I searched their web site but can't find an address or directions. Also heard they are very expensive.

Hey i know this is a little off topic, but from all of you who are tatooed, do you know if tattoo artists can tattoo around a scar from a surgery? about a year ago i was in a car accident and had internal bleeding. Because of that i know have scar about 15 inches long down my belly. I want to get a tattoo that looks like a zipper on each side of it, so it looks like I got a zipper on my belly.

From what you are saying, I would say it is possible, but I would ask BOTH your doctor AND a reputable tattoo artist.

I just through it out there as a topic for discussion, but Googles it and got it on the first hit!

"Miami Ink
1344 Washington Ave
Miami Beach, FL 33139View Map
(305) 531-4556

Editorial Description
The home of Miami's famous (thanks to the TLC reality series) and talented tattoo artists."

I'm guessing this is it?!?!

You might want to give them a call and confirm. Also you might want to see if they have a website of their art.

Krunch..........Yes, that is their address. They are right at the beginning of South Beach. You might want to call them and tell them whenyou are coming in and see if you can get an appointment. Also, remember what I said......You will be going in the water and will be in the sun on your cruise. You might ask them about that. Maybe get it done when you return from the cruise if you have time.

AlaskanGrown....you would have to go into the tattoo shop and have a tattoo artist look at your scar to see if it can be incorporated into the tattoo you are considering. On one episode of Miami Ink, there was a young girl who was tattooed on her back where she had a lot of scars and another woman who was tattooed on her stomach over and around some scars.

I doubt I would be getting a tattoo there. I would be interested in getting something small maybe IF one of the stars of the show actually did the tattoo, but I doubt I could afford it anyway. Especially since I have a lot invested in this cruise / trip to Disney right now. I would though just like to take a trip to the studio, maybe get some pics of the place, just to say I was there. If this is indeed the place where the taping takes place, and photos of the outside and maybe inside of the building is allowed.

Yes, that's the place. Don't know if they would be shooting when you arrive or not. But I'm sure there is no problem in taking pictures......just ask.

I just did a search, and Ink has an open casting call going on to have it done on air. Go to the web site if interested.

I always wanted a tattoo on my hip. Something simple like a humming bird. Glad I didn't! Since that area of my body has grown, it would now be a buzzard.

Seriously are you crazy? I would never get anything even close to a tattoo done in Mexico. I wont even drink their water or have mixed drinks there so there is no way I am allowing anyone to stick me with a needle.

Speaking from a heavily tattooed woman, do your research, check out your local shops, ask to see artwork. If you and your best friend want to bond do it at home.

Also on a side note, please learn how to spell tattoo before you run out and get one. I know that is pretty petty and a low ball thing to say but seriously. You spelt it wrong twice and once I could have said it was a typo but two times wrong is just well wrong.

Thank you for saying what I wanted to! If you can't spell it, don't do it !

I have enjoyed this thread. The last one that was tried, was a lot of angry people, making others feel bad.

I also had to look up the word spelt. According to the American Dictionary, it is a hardy wheat in Europe.

Hubby & I are also both proudly bear numerous tattoos, but we ALWAYS go back to our same guy, clean and reputable. Also you have to REALLY follow their after-care directions. No swimming for the rest of the cruise could be a bummer!

Perhaps you could design something to remind you of your cruise, and get it back in the good ol US of A, maybe a referral from someone who has been to a good tattoo parlor....

Enjoy!

Just say "NO". Don't do it. If you are so fascinated, get a temporary tattoo onboard the ship.
