I’m going to join the chorus of folks saying get the passport.

I also used mine to prove citizenship when I switched jobs so it has other uses.

I think Americans have gotten a little too used to this concept of traveling out of the country to vacation in nearby destinations without a passport. You are leaving the country people.

The bottom line is there isn’t a more valid/bulletproof form of ID then a passport.

I’ve found things go super smooth when you can present it also so why deal with a headache on vacation when you don’t have to.

Hell I remember then your boarding pass was a carbon copy of a form you filled out before getting on the ship and that’s all you had to present when coming back on board. No metal detectors or x-ray machines just a guy with a nametag saying security when you got back on and all the booze you could carry for onboard consumption. Sorry I had to slip that one in.

That's the same with me. I haven't had a Social Security card in over 30 years. It's at the bottom of a lake in northern Minnesota. I left it in my wallet in my pocket while water skiing. (Young and dumb). However I've had a passport since I was 14 and it fulfills all I9 requirements for employment. Just show that and if you know your SS number you're home free.

Take care,
Mike

I've used my passport for employment purposes and for the reasons Joey explained. I carry it with me every time I stepped of the ship or even for day trips to Canada for exactly that reason. Call it insurance or what ever. If I need to get to or call the embassy, I have bullet proof ID that I am a US citizen.

The DoS site is NOT correct. It does not contain the latest revisions of H.R. 5441.
