Default passport for St Maartin ?

I've been told many differnt things regarding passports for St Maartin. I understand that St Maartin does require passports, but if you arrive via a cruise ship, it is not required.
Can anyone verify this!

but if you need to fly home from St. Maartin for any reason you will need a passport to re-enter into the United States after January 8, 2007.

Its a good thing to have a passport and the money spent is a small price to pay for the piece of mind and and reduced level of bull crap you may have to deal with.

My goodness! Why did it take 6 hours? Granted, we got our passports last year, but it only took about 15 minutes. Are people finally realizing they need passports and "jamming" the offices?

It's good that you applied for your passports now. Just think what it will be like in November and December !

The profile info indicates kodiak is across the border up north.

They may not have as high speed a bureaucracy as we have down here.

Yes, I'm from Vancouver, BC.
The passport office's are going crazy up here, as people scramle to get their passports before they have to travel in late 06, or 07.
Mine was a little longer than normal due to some complications, but it will still take the average canadian about 3 hours to apply for their passport, and then wait 10 days for it to arrive.
If Mr Bush does not push back the start date of his initiative, the tourist economy on both sides of the border will be devasted, as only 30-40 % of canadians have a passport, and ony 20% of americans.

Sorry, kodiak44, I didn't check your location! It's interesting that it takes so much time to apply for your passport, but only 10 days to receive it!

When we applied it took only 15 minutes, but it took five weeks to receive the passports. (And that was last year.)

Yes, I agree that things are going to be a mess for a while !
