Default When is captains cocktail party?

We will be taking our second cruise on the Spirit in May/2007. I understand that we will get an invitation to the captains cocktail party. Just wondering....is this held on one of the formal nights, or will I need to take another formal outfit to wear on a different night?
Thanks, Beejo.

P.S. I really enjoy this site, so much useful information. I'm especially enjoying Luannes virtual cruise.....even though I will probably never take a warm weather cruise. As much as I would love to see those places, unfortunately I can't take the heat. That's okay though, I love being on the ship, so it doesn't really matter where we are.

The Captins Cocktail Party is alway held before dinner on the first formal night. You will not need anything else to wear. The party last for about an hour.

Sounds like a timeshare pitch type of thing to me.

Now, why would I want to go to that on a cruise?

I can answer your question in two words Irish Shark. "Free Drinks"!!!!
That's why you go to the past guest party on a cruise.

Thanks guys....so glad I don't have to worry about another formal outfit.

I have definitely got the cruising bug, so any suggestions on "not so warm weather" cruises would be appreciated. I think the New England/Canada one would be nice, also there was a repositioning cruise last month that sailed out of Vancouver and ended up in L.A. I believe. I thought that might be one to consider for the future. What do you think

The ones that I went to on Princess were useless. The drink guy gave us one 1/10-once drink and never came back with the other 9/10.

Here's an idea, TIP the waiter.... My daughter tipped her $5.00 & we had a table full of drinks....
We go to both the Welcome by the Captain & the Past Cruisers party....
That way there is no need to purchase hard drinks the rest of the cruise...

When I went on the Glory, the Captain's Cocktail Party was on the first formal night. It was at 5:00 before the dinner, and you just wear what you would wear for the entire night, usually a nice evening dress.

You can always go up to any of the bars and order what you want. All drinks are free during the Captains Cocktail Party.

If you're really into it, you can hit both the early and late parties for lots of free drinks.

Thanks to everyone for your help. I have another question....Where is the captains cocktail party held, and does the captain go around and talk to people?

Beejo,
It is my understanding there are 2 formal nights on cruises 7 days or longer. When we were on the Spirit it was an 8 day, but all of our 7 day have had two formal nights.
