Default So...how common is it to NOT get your preferred dining time?

Hubby and I have never....let me repeat this....NEVER been assigned the dining time we have requested. We have managed to speak to the Maitre'd and get reassigned to our preference. But, I've wondered if it's just us or what.

We have friends who just returned from their first cruise (theirs was with RCI) and they didn't get their requested dining time.

I just read an (unrelated) thread here, where someone on their honeymoon cruise didn't get their requested time.

So I'm thinking....this is not just us!! Does the whole world want the same dining time, and so at least 50% don't get what they want? Or are the unlucky ones actually a small minority....to which hubby and I seem to be permanently attached?

I would think that it would depend on the ship, and cruise line. We have cruise 4 times, and have always received our requested time, except one, and that was due to the TA not listening to us. She requested late, and that is what we got. Only problem was we told her early.

I always get my requested dining time. I also book early, but I don't know how much that matters.

If you don't get your requested time, go see the maitre'd as soon as you get on the ship. He will change your time, if possible. That is what we have always done, and usually end up with the time we wanted.

When do we actually find out what time they assigned us? We requested 6:15. There is not anything on out docs that mention dining time. Do we find out when we board and check in?

It sounds as if hubby and I are part of an exclusive (if unhappy! *L*) minority.

As I said, we've always been able to go to the Maitre'd and get our time switched to what we requested. We've just thought it was odd that we've never gotten it!

We've always asked for the early seating.

We've decided that for our Med cruise next May, we want the later seating (we don't want to have to rush back to the ship to dress for dinner if we're still looking at the Parthenon in Athens!). Who wants to bet we get assigned early seating this time?

Terri,

You are probably right. As long as you can laugh about it, you will be just fine.

Have a great cruise.

We have always gotten our requested seating times. Somewhere in the recesses of my mind, it seems I heard that the assignments are made when you book, so the earlier you book, the better your chances of getting requested time. On this last cruise we have a small table for our family of 5. (This was done without a special request) That was ideal since we were dining with a 2 1/2 year old! She did very good while in the dining room, but there are times that you have to keep her entertained. I don't think it would be nice to subject other passengers to this, if they don't have children, as well.

It's not me! All she has to do is look at Grampa and one would have to laugh!

(No camera--no evidence!)

The waiters were also very good at keeping her entertained. My DIL brought a miniature water goblet from Emilie's tea party set, for her to drink out of each evening. We requested apple juice and each evening they brought a small pitcher used for hot tea with apple juice for her. We forgot the small glass the first evening, and each evening when we came back, it was set as part of the place setting. No wonder our waiter Asep is heading to the new Freedom! He was great.

Default Be lucky

Well as said before is a "requested" not guarantee dining time, some people are very lucky other not that much hahah not basically it depends, on since when you bought the cruise, the number of people, if you have any special needs, the late seating is usually full as everybody wants to enjoy all the ports until late. The maitre d' always accomodate when he comes but some people will always yell at him, poor guy

I booked my cruise in 08/05 for 11/06. I asked for early seating and got late seating but it was ok. I just ate more than I should have. Ha Ha

We asked for 6:15 and got 8:00. Ended up only eating in dining room twice. To late for us to eat.

We've also always gotten our requested times and always book early. Don't know if there is a connection or not...

We have always received our requested time. However, our daughter is alergic to shellfish and when we went last March on the Elation, we couldn't find the maitr'd. We just went to the pursers desk and asked for help. They did a special menu on the spot for her and she knew what she was having for the rest of the week. They took our concerns very seriously and I will always think of that when I cruise. We have only cruised on Carnival and with this special treatment, we will not try another cruise line.

Default So how common is it not to get preferred seating time

Just got home from Western Carribbean cruise on Carnival Inspiration. Had late dinner seating and found myself missing or rushing to get to alot of things i wanted to see and do on board ship. Friends that were traveling with our group all did their own things after dinner, gamble/drink, drink/gamble. I liked heading to the shows or deck for some fun/drinks, drinks/fun or to turn in early with hubby. Guess what i'm trying to say is get your dining time preference around your excursions and ship activities. Like one of the previous post got to the pursers desk. They can fix anything.

Happy Cruising & Merry Christmas
