Default upgrade question?

I was just wondering, if you already get assigned a room would they still give you an upgrade(you know from the upgrade fairy). I like the room I have booked already and would hate to see it changed, or do they only do the possible upgrades to those that book a guarantee???

If you were assigned a room that's the one you will get, unless you ask about upgrades at the dock or before. I moved up to a really nice suite once for about $200 extra. nice!

Hi Jimbo

Exactly how did you go about getting that upgrade to a suite? I can understand the extra money but who did you go thru. Was it because the suite wasn't booked and they wanted to get it booked?

Hi AmazingAngel,

If you've booked a cabin that you really want just ask your TA or your Princess PVP to put "no upgrade" on your booking. Even if you've booked a specific cabin there is a chance that you'll be "upgraded" unless you specify "no upgrade".

Sometimes the "upgrade" is not so great . You might go from an amidships cabin to a cabin a deck above that's way forward or aft, or under the pool deck or galley (which we, personally, wouldn't want). While it does happen, it's very unusual to be upgraded out of the category you've booked (outside to balcony, for instance).

These days it's very rare that a ship doesn't sail completely full. But, as Jimbo said, it can't hurt to ask when you check in!

Every cruise we've been on there have been signs everywhere that there were no upgrades available for that sailing.

Thanks Fran, I wasn't aware the one could get upgraded even if you don't ask for it. I always pick out a cabin that is right for my preferences. I'll ask my TA to put on "no upgrades", I don't wanna end up under the bowling alley, or right next to a busy evevator. Jimbo

Default Signs

Some of the ship even put a sign right in the middle on the purser's desk " no cabins available". The ships are always full like always. Usually there are no more than 3 cabins that becomes available that some guests cannot make it, however those cabins are kept for emergencies like toilet overfloowing, but most commom for domestiv disputes. So, that are really not available for upgrades not even if you are willing to pay.

We got upgraded just a few days ago, went from an oceanview cabin on deck 2 to balcony cabin on deck 6 --- quite a nice upgrade.

my question now is...what do we do about luggage tags?

Oh an insider tip - they always put the "ship is full no upgrades" sign up at the pursers desk no matter what, we sailed after Wilma and our ship was only 1/2 full, and they had the sign up. The piano player told us that they leave that sign up permanently. They don't like long lines at the pursers desk.

When you get an upgrade before the cruise is great. But when the guest are not upgraded or don't like the new cabin they go to the desk to ask for one. The sign was there because they probably forgot as it doesn't make sense if the guests know the ship is half empty.
But the point is even in that case the upgrade would not happen because if you move one guest then you have to move the whole ship around. Unless of course you have a valid complain like a noise that is present in the cabin and cannot be fixed.
