Wear whatever you want during the day. Shorts, jeans, jogging suit, etc .....

For the formal nights "evening dresses" are just dandy.

Enjoy yourself.

I feel the same way - stressed, over what to wear. This is my first as well and I think I have information overload to the point of almost taking the fun out of anticipating our first cruise. I am not an "evening dress" type and had hoped to stay within a budget. Would a long black skirt and "sparkly" tops be OK? If not, then it's going to be pizza for dinner for me, boo hoo. What about dinner other than "formal" nights? Dressy pants and nice tops OK?

Yes, you can get to the point where you have brain overload and you are just so nervous that it wrecks you and the crusie.

What you have described for the two formal nighst sounds just fine.

Relax and enjoy your cruise.

Don't stress over what to wear. I did almost to the point of not even going on our first cruise. On formal night there were anything from really dressy formal type dresses to the skirt and top as you mentioned. In fact that is what I had to wear and I did not even feel out of place. It is purely personal preference if you want to dress up. I am not the dress up type myself so was really stressed over the fact that I felt if I didn't dress up I would be so out of place, NOT TRUE. Don't fret over it at all. Day time wear as mentioned is anything. We wore shorts every day and when we ate at the buffet. I even wore the shorts to the shows at night and there were other people in shorts. Be comfortable, whatever you are comfortable in will be fine. It's not worth the stress. Have fun and enjoy.

5 night cruises generally have 1 formal night.
Longer cruises generally have 2 formal nights I believe.

A tuxedo or evening gown isn’t needed on a Carnival ship on formal nights and, in my opinion, you would actually be out of place if you went that far. Most men would want to wear a suit and tie, women would want a nice dark dress or pants suit. You see a fair amount with just button up long sleeve shirts with ties and women in nice classy skirts.

I am not a "dress up nazi" and feel you should do what makes you happiest, but even in the non-formal nights my wife and I like to get dressed up. It’s purely for our own enjoyment though. It makes it feel like more of a special occasion. We also only eat in the dining room and never go to the buffet, again just personal preference. She wears at least a dress or dinner skirt and I wear a minimum of nice pants with a long sleeve button up shirt. We never feel over dressed but you do see people in khakis or short skirts and short sleeved button up or polo shirts and this is perfectly fine. You also do see people dressed very casually but they sometimes look uncomfortable and out of place. This is likely what you are trying to avoid by asking this valid question.

If you prefer shorts and t-shirts, don’t have nice clothes, aren’t comfortable in them, or have a day when you are worn out there are options for you. The buffet runs every night and there is no dress code. You can also try the dining room and see how you feel. Some people arent bothered by dressing casually there. I would feel out of place and not enjoy my meal but again its just personal preference. That’s what makes a cruise so great, choices to fit just about anyone!

Do you think a cream colored pant suit would work?
