We're going on the Triumph, leaving March 24. Wondering if any of the excursions offered by Carnival are really worthwhile, or should we just go it on our own? We don't arrive in San Juan until 5:00 pm and have until midnight. It's also my husband's birthday that evening so I'm hoping there's something fun to do!
Hey Laineylane, we are doing the same itinerary in April on the victory. We've been on the Triumph and you should have a great time. In my opinion only go-it-alone if you know what you want to do. Once we just ended up wandering around and pretty much wasted our time. Research the islands. We have been to St. Thomas and St. Maarten before. Take the airtram thingy on St. Thomas to Paradise Point for beautiful postcard perfect pics (don't need to reserve through Carnival) and then you should still have plenty of time to do something else whether it's a shoretour or not. On St. Maarten we had a blast on the Rhino Riders booked through Carnival. We kept trying to race some friends of ours but we got a pokey rhino and just couldn't keep up but still laughed alot! We are also having a difficult time finding what to do on San Juan having never been there before. We're trying to find a lively bar. Well, hope some of this helps.

San Juan at night - hotel nightclubs, casinos, the bioluminescent tour is also supposed to be very interesting.
St. Maarten - book either the Golden Eagle Catamaran sail in the morning and then shop in the afternoon, or book the America's Cup Regatta. If you just want to hit the beach then just head over to Orient Beach - topless beach and there is one section that is clothing optional, its a great beach.
St. Thomas - imho the best beaches are over on St. John Island- the best way to do this is to book the Champagne Catamaran Sail if your ship offers it, do not book the ships tour to Trunk Bay - you don't get enough beach time, you can do it on your own - check the ferry schedules and beach info at www.vinow.com. My top choice for a beach on St. Thomas proper would be Sapphire Beach - beautiful with good snorkeling. shopping is also quite good in St. Thomas.
