Hi! New to the boards. I have a quick question. My husband and I are going on our 3rd cruise in less than a week. It is our first Carnival cruise. Anyway one of our ports is Nassau and we really wanted to visit Paradise Island and Atlantis resort. Soooo, my question is this: Are there boats that will take you to Atlantis that are not affiliated with the cruise line and if so are they reliable and how much are they? My husband and I were just wondering if it is worth it book it thru Carnival or just go with a tour guide on the island?
Any info on this and the Carnival line would be greatly appreciated!!!
Yes, you can get over there going on a water taxi, for about $3 - $4 each way, per person. You can also take a regular taxi and once there take the tour. Its really an amazing property, worth seeing, have fun.
The Atlantis resort is so magnificent; its splendour is definitely worth the trip.
You don't have to take Carnival's excursion to visit Atlantis. At port, there's going to a lot of local tour guides looking for tourists (and they're safe because they carry ID's). You should get inside the Festival Place, which is the main tourist building, and they have all the tourist info and guides there. Water taxi, as Donna mentioned, is about $3 to $4; but they leave you at the spot where it takes a bit to walk to the actual resort (or so my local tour guide said ) I took the land taxi and they took us right up to the resort, which was pretty nice.
The only bad thing about visiting Atlantis is that you get to see all that wonderful stuff that people are enjoying, but not participate in it yourself. Makes you somewhat envious
I dont know how you and your husband feel about shopping but there is a straw market. That is the place to buy all your goods. The locals there will get on your nerves trying to sell you things but the nice thing is you deal so low with these people its like a steal. I dont know if your into those designers purses but there are TONS of them and CHEAP. DEFENITLY WORTH GOING TO SEE.
Thanks tinker. Hubby and I have been to Nassau before. We went snorkeling with the sharks. It was a blast. We visited the straw markets and I am looking forward to going back. Is there seperate shopping at Atlantis?
In Nassau near the Bay Street shopping center and George Street.

Thank you both so much for the info. It really helps. You just save my husband and me lots of money. Can't wait to see it.
Oh....can anyone give me their impression of their aquarium? Is it called the Dig? Can we take a tour of that as well?
Well, I didn't go into the Dig because it was an extra $27/person (around that). However, they have big aquarium of manta rays, various types of fish, etc. right inside the lobby. It's pretty nice by itself
And, you can also walk around the resort. There are just GORGEOUS views (especially of the private beach) . . . lots of picture taking opportunities.
You will love Atlantis .. as mentioned the boat ferries are $3 each way and cabs are $4 each way ... you can walk around without a fee but you cannot get to many places, thr privacy of those paying for the resort are highly protected .. and rightly so ... without the $29+tour. You can though see the acquarium from below and use the casino ... I was fortunate enough to walk away with an extra $1050 during my New Years Eve cruise on the Glory .... Atlantis would be a great destination resort in itself when great rates and packages could be found.

The aquarium is well worth the price of admission. We took the cruise ship excursion, 39.00 each, but it encluded transportion to and from, the admission ticket into the aquarium and after the official tour you could use your wristband to go back through again if you wanted to. To me it was worth the price booking with the cruise line. They walk you right to the Atlantis Resort and give you a little bit of history on everything. Either way you go, it is worth the visit.
