Default Anyone Cruise Out Of Puerto Rico???

'm taking a cruise out of Puerto Rico this summer and I'm wondering where people were from on the boat. My last cruise was out of Port Canaveral, Fl. so a lot of people were from the south(FL, GA, AL, TN, SC). My cruise before that went out of New York so a lot of people were from the northeast.

Where have people come from when you went out of Puerto Rico? Thanks.

I love cruising out of PR, some great itinaries. As for people, its a big mix of people, not a whole lot different than cruising out of FL, you may have more people from Puerto Rico.

When we went last September about 70% of the people on board were from Puerto Rico. All announcements were made in both English and Spanish (we didn't bother us but a lot of other people complained about it).

I loved cruising out of PR. I'm ready to go back. On my cruise it was a huge mix of people. I noticed lots of European passengers. *shrugs* As long as everyone is having a great time, it doesn't matter.

I too agree with the previous posters.. Many folks from P.R., and more than normal from Europe,,, but other than the majority from P.R., they come from everywhere! I guess it's just as easy to fly to P.R. as to Miami, if you're flying anyway.
Have a great cruise, and brush up on your Spanish.

Not to sound rude, but this is dissapointing. I'm 18 so I obviously want to meet others my own age and I think a language barrier could be a big thing! Also, to put it bluntly, I would rather only hanging out with other Americans. Were a lof of teens on these PR cruises puerto rican and european as well?

On our cruise almost all the teens/young adults were from Puerto Rico (we sailed the first week of September).

Well the majority of PR do speak english so I do not think you will have a problem with that. At your age you should be excited to meet different people from different walks of like and cultures. I was a bit disappointed when I read that you prefer to only hang out with Americans( I am an American). In case you forgot there is a whole world out there besides Americans. Just go on your cruise and enjoy your self it does not matter where peoplpe are from as long as they are having fun.

A couple of thoughts:

Depending on the time of year that you cruise, you may have a lot of teens from different countries on your cruise.

Also, because you are cruising from PR instead of FL or CA or other port on the continental US, you will probably find fewer people from the continent on your cruise simply because of the cost of airfare there and back. This is not always the case if the cruise line includes a good air promotion, but it is something to consider.

And, as others have said, Puerto Rico is a US territory, so the citizens of Puerto Rico are, technically, American. And, they do speak English, even if it is, at times, accented. Puerto Rico is not a third world country.

Have fun!

There was a major study done last year to find the happiest people in the world. Guess which Country came in first place?

Puerto Rico was rated as the Country with the happiest people in the world.

It said that they celebrate christmas for the entire month of January to get in extra parties.

They have more parties and get-togethers then any other Nation.

Puerto Rico does not have a weekend without some kind of party.

( I found this funny, ripped out the article and gave it to the guy that lives next to me, he's from Puerto Rico, and is the nicest guy I've ever met. Always trying to help me out with anything I need )

I do think it makes a difference in that school will not have started, so you will have a better chance of having more kids/teens on board.

The time we cruised out of PR, it was th first week of September, and there were fewer than 100 kids on the ship.

Have fun!!

We cruised the Destiny in May, 2004, and there were a number from PR, FL, GA, California and other states.

We're from Michigan, American, and sailed out of PR twice when we were in our mid-twenties and have had no problems. If you think being around Americans is the only way to have fun, then don't take a cruise. The staff is international and a sizeable number of guests are from other countries.

By the way, PR is a US territory and everyone we encountered spoke perfect English.

Wow, some responses in this post is very disurbing, I'll leave it at that..
But to answer the original question, yes I noticed more passengers were from PR, but when I cruise from my home port of Florida that is also the case. I think since spanish is the first language of PRicans, then it is only appropriate to make announcements in spanish.. I also heard announcements in French, Greman and Italian. But I never hear anyone complaining about that.
