Hi I was wandering does anyone know where the strawmarket is in ocho rios jamica and which is the best way to get there. Any ideas other than the straw market to do in jamcia. We are going to honeymooning we are young 22 and 23. any ideas please let me know
I'm not sure what you mean by a straw market, but there's a large craft market at the top of Dunns River Falls. Be careful - they're rather anxious to get you into their stalls, to the point of grabbing you.
In terms of things to do, we've done Dunns River Falls, the White River inner tubing, and my son did the jungle zip line. They were all fun...
Almost anywhere in Jamaica you'll find "aggressive" vendors! Unless you're interested in what they're selling, just say "no thank you" and keep moving.
There is a shopping plaza in Ocho Rios where you won't find "aggressive" vendors, but it's like shopping at home .
If the "aggressiveness" doesn't bother you , you can find lots of interesting souvenirs in Jamaica and the people are very friendly!
"A truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery on a detour."
When we were there in 04, there was a straw market downtown, very easy walking distance from the ship. Very aggresive and pushy. We also got hounded by the locals on the street for taxi and tour services.
The stuff in the straw markets were your typical crafts, bags and such.

Pay by cash or travelers cheques there. A few years ago in Ocho Rios we went to the market close to the cruise ship terminal. We tried to pay for a souvenir $40 value with visa. Card was swiped but they said it wouldn't work. Then gave them Amex which worked. Got my Visa bill with a $40 purchase and my Amex with a $400 purchase. Luckily both reversed the charges when I protested. They checked & found there was fraud. Be careful when you use credit cards there. I am now.
