Default Most AFFORDABLE way to cruise?

Hi!
I have been on 2 cruises and will soon be planning an Alaskan cruise.
What is the best method of affordable cruising? Travel agent, cruise line itself, orbitz, etc.
What is your advice and where should I begin?
Thank you SO much in advance!!

ALSO, can you recommend a great cruise line for the Alaska cruise?

Here is what I do.

- Look at the cruise line's Web Site to see what they are charging and if there are any specials.

- Next, go to several online Web sites and see who has the best deal. Orbitz, etc are not the ones to look at.

- RCI or Princess for Alaska.

- Book early.

Friends of our sailed on Princess for their Alaska cruise and loved it.

Once you decide on a date I would check pricing using cruisecompete.com

My experience with that is I did not get the lowest price. I also got some "too good to be true" prices. And they were.

We cruised Alaska with Carnival on the Spirit and had a GREAT time.

We searched the net for deals on all lines and then took what we found to our travel agent. She beat them all.

I wish you luck and enjoy Alaska, it's a trip of a lifetime!!!!

I agree - I went on the spirit to Alaska - and had a wonderful time! However, if you are trying to save $$, then Alaska isn't the place to go. You need to go all out with everything to enjoy Alaska! Its beautiful!! I have always gotten a better price with my TA - even if its 100.00 pp cheaper - they always beat what I find on the net. I agree -- BOOK EARLY! They will always refund you $$ if the prices drop - or take it off the bottom line per say. Then you get a better chance of upgrade also. We were upgraded to an AFT balcony which going to Alaska was AWESOME because we got to see both sides of the glacier, inner passage, etc from our balcony. We went in September which seemed to be the cheaper month to go - got dark at the usual 7ish instead of midnight. But, that wouldn't have bothered me anyway - September was just a convenient month for us.

click on the cruise shopping banner at the top of the page, and look for deals. Post an inquiry on cruisecompete.com, sit down and talk to a local travel agent, browse the cruiselines web site.
