BOARDING SHIP WITH ALCOHOL
I'm hearing it is OK to board the ships with wines without much chance of it being confiscated in the carry-on. How strict do they seem to be if one brought champagne and/or beer? Is it mostly "hard liquor" that they confiscate more often than not?

Liquor and Beverage Policy
Bringing Alcohol On Board - Embarkation
Guests are prohibited from bringing alcoholic beverages on board. However, wine enthusiasts may bring fine wine or champagne on board only during embarkation at the beginning of the cruise. A $10 corkage fee per bottle will be charged should you wish to consume this wine in the dining room or a $14 corkage fee per bottle in the Supper Club. Guests may bring a small quantity of nonalcoholic beverages. All liquor, excessive quantities of wine and nonalcoholic beverages, to be determined at the discretion of security and/or embarkation personnel, will be confiscated and discarded without compensation. Guests may purchase a variety of beverages on board the ship. Alcoholic beverages will not be sold or served to anyone under the age of 21. We reserve the right to refuse the sale of alcoholic beverages to anyone. Alcoholic beverages purchased in the ship’s gift shops or in ports of call will be retained by Carnival until the end of the voyage.

I've never seen Carnival confiscate any liquor. That doesn't mean it doesn't happen. However, I've heard of other cruiselines seizing alcohol. Our group just packed it in our checked bags. Do a board search and you will find other threads with resourceful people who have managed to get their alcohol on board. This tends to be a touchy subject around here.

Not touchy for me. I pack my own.
He asked a question and I just gave him the Lines "rules".

I wasn't talking about you Irish. I was typing my response to his question while you were typing yours. I didn't even see your post until after my post. Sorry! (I told you it was a touchy subject around here!)

Midsouth - here's the sort version. You can carry on wine/champagne, water, soda, juice. You can also pack this in your luggage. Carnival allows it with no restrictions - expect they say a "reasonable amount". As for beer/liquor - you have to hide it the best way you know how.
Bon voyage!

When we boarded the Pride last week they were running carry-ons through an X-ray machine and confiscating liquids of any kind. They had quite a nice selection of beer ,soda and juice by the time we got to the machine. They would not even allow bottled water that some people were drinking while in line. This had to be disposed of in a garbage pail before proceeding.

Worth repeating, but here is Carnival's written policy:
Guess they were exercising their "discretion"...sounds like someone just overdid the amount considered "small quantity"

I find this very unusual! Did they give any reason for confiscating all liquids? Was there some kind of threat?
I know that the airlines have this policy, but I've never heard of a cruise ship confiscating all liquids !

Nobody said anything about a hightened threat level. We have always cruised out of Miami so we thought this was just a west coast thing.

so how many flames would you guys throw at me if i said....put your vodka in a water bottle (your allowed to bring water) and put the lid back on and stick it in your suitcases with the other 5 bottles of plain water (get the ones with the plastic holders around the neck...)
ok, just a thought..im not that big a drinker but i was going to bring a small bottle of vodka for myself.....shoot. i hate wine. im not usually a rule breaker, but one of the fun things about going to mexico and jamaica is buying some booze! Its vacation so having a drink or two in my cabin while getting ready seems like a nice idea, without having to pay 18.00 for the same thing at the bar...

That would be okay but in this case at least they were confiscating water too. Strangely we bought Tequila while in P.V. and brought it aboard in our back pack without having it taken. Come to think of it we also brought some Pepsi on board. I know this is usually all right, but it doesn"t explain why it would be permitted in P.V. but not Long Beach.

were they checking peoples bags before boarding? It would sorta suck being in jamaica and not buying rum and coffee which is the only reason i even like going to jamaica.
I thougt you could bring water with you!?
fine then i'll pour my vodka (alcohol of choice) in those green 7 up bottles and keep them in their plastic wraps....hahahahaha
maybe in my shampoo bottle??? Will they look in that?
Im such a rebel...such a bad bad girl. My hubby will think im nuts running a shampoo bottle thru the wash 15 times.....

My wife and I were on the Destiny last month. we had a bottle of vodka in the checked bag when we boarded the ship and had no problems and in each port, I packed an un-breakable sports bottle in the day pack we take ashore each day and before we reboard the ship we buy the liquor of the day and fill the bottle, then tuck it back in the day pack and had no problems resupplying as necessary. (this run-on sentence would make my old school teachers choke)
worked for us
