Default How much $ do you bring?? Hidden fee's?

Hi still a newbie

im looking at buying my cruise thru an ebay travel agent with 100% rating. Looks legit. His prices are cheaper and the fee's and taxes are included. Is this too good to be true. Balcony 7 night carribean for 1500 for 2 total, no hidden fee's. Galveston on the conquest.

Ok, So how much will we need to have FUN on our cruise. Bingo? Excursions? if we go thru a reg agent and pay our fee's and taxes how much are those?

Ballpark figure for a good time for 7 nights.

thanks

Call a TA first and then call Carnival. Then decide if you want to do the EBay thing. Also check vacationstogo dotcom. Your price isn't bad, but just reassure yourself. I buy excursions before we leave. The only money I need is for drinks, gambling and shopping. I've cruised before, so I really won't be doing as much shopping as before, so I'm thinking I can do the same cruise with $500.00 for me. You need to decide what you think you will spend.

Carnival sets the price for cruises. This price will vary from week to week for the exact same trip. It's the supply and demand thing! Then, sometimes, right before the cruise date, they lower the price to fill those extra rooms.

As far as port fees, government fees and taxes...it varies from day to day. I think the "extra" fees were $196.10 per person for our May 20th trip on the Conquest.

There really aren't any hidden fees. You just have to learn what the charges are on a cruise! When you book a hotel room, each place has their own little extra fees. You might want to check out the tipping guidelines for your cruise line. It's just a different name on a cruise!

I like a local travel agent. Just in case something goes wrong, I want to know where they are! Nothing has ever happened, but just in case! Also my TA gives me little free extras...chocolate covered strawberries, pictures, etc. And when you are new to cruising, they can share their wealth of knowledge!

Have Fun!

One fee not listed is gratuities. During the embarkation process you'll be issued a sail-n-sign card. This is used as a room key, boarding pass, and for all purchases onboard. The card is secured with a major credit card although I believe you can also secure it with cash. The moment you board that card will be charged $10 per day/per person. So $140 for two people 7 day cruise. That covers everyone except room service waiters, + maitre d. If you want to raise or lower the amount of your tips, see the purser onboard. We normally give the cabin steward and dining room waiters an additional cash tip depending on the level service. Otherwise , only extras are drinks (soda pop or alchoholic), spa treatments, supper club reservations, gambling, bingo $10 per card or 3 for $20) + specialty coffeee + deserts. Excursions purchased onboard also go on the sail-n-sign. Any excursions you purchase online before the cruise will be immediately billed to the CC used to purchase the tickets. As the previous poster mentioned about ebay CAVEAT EMPTOR (let the buyer beware).

sounds like it's not a good enough deal to buy it off of EBAY. I wouldn't take the risk when you could probably get a similar rate from a good TA.

i emailed several clients from the ebayers..all gave them as many thumbs up as possible, even saying they spoke to the person several times and she went over and above most travel agents. Everyone said they are using her from now on.

So..for 1500 for balcony with no port fees or taxes (its included) im having trouble finding anything cheaper. I can find it for around the same price, but then you have port fees and taxes..which add up.

this is darn hard..im afraid to wait to book, and afraid TO book....lol

Not really. My T/A is charging me only $1262 for a 7 day Eastern Caribbean on the Glory from Port Canaveral. That is including taxes and port fees.It is also for one person in the stateroom ( 8E Panorama deck ).
Shop around some more.

You have to be very careful with this kind of "feedback". You don't really know that these people aren't friends or family posting.

If I were you, I'd certainly check other online sites and also with a "brick and mortar" TA who is a Cruise Specialist.

I've seen more than my share of posts about how wonderful the online agent was until they got the $$$ ! Then they seemed to "disappear" if you had questions or if the price dropped!

Just be careful!

Okay ....these are the prices I found for a balcony room on the Conquest. it includes port charges and government fees. It does not include tax which should be under $30.00 per person. These are the prices today. The first column is the date. Second is the cost per person (based on double occupancy) for the cheapest balcony room. The third column is the % you saved off the rack rate. As you can see, the prices vary from sailing to sailing. Also, beware of this tactic....you book the room and give the guy your credit card. A little while later he calls and says, "I called Carnival and there are no more balcony rooms available at the rate I quoted you two hours ago. I know you had to call your husband for his opinion, but in that time all of those rooms are gone. However I can get you a balcony room at $). Hope this helps.

thanks i will going to a TA this week with DH.

Now for my real question HOW MUCH MONEY do you guys bring for a good week. Atleast one good excursion per port(3 ports) a bit of gambling and maybe 2 - 3 drinks per day.

Is bingo 20 dollars per SESSION for 3 cards? How many games per session. I love bingo Its an embarrassing passion i have lol.

Hubby thinks he would want 100 total to gamble with but i think that seems like a lot.

I'm not really counting tipping cuz i know its atleast 10/day pp. Its the incidentals that im concerned about saving for.

thanks!

Get your shore excursions online at Carnival.com as soon as you get a booking number, you can pay for those in advance. With that said, I'm doing ziplining in Jamaica approx $140.00 per person. Then I'm going to Margaritaville....$50.00 for me.

Grand Cayman, I've already done Stingray City (if you haven't you need to do this), so I'm going to the beach....I'm strictly guessing here $40.00. Then I have to buy rumcakes to bring home....and rum ....$200.00. Now if I get certified to dive 8) and take the dive excursion, I think that might run another $100.00.

Cozumel....I've gotta do the Dolphin thing $140.00 per person (estimate). Then I need to get some more vanilla $40.00. Carlos and Charlies ($50.00). At some point I need to pick up souvenirs for the 2 kids I'm not bringing with me $100.00.

Drinks on the ship...drink of the day averages about $5.00, so $15.00 x 7 = $105.00. Bingo (I like it too!) $50.00. and it is that amount per session, but I don't remember how many games they play (it's not like the bingo places).

I don't need or want any of the stuff they sell on the ship, so I'm good there. I don't plan on purchasing anything at (or attending) the art auction, so I'm good there. I also don't need any more t-shirts that shrink, wood carved animals, perfume, over-priced jewelry or embroidered shirts. I've got the neat swings so I don't need that (I think we haggled them down to $35.00 on those last time).

Now for the gambling....I'm a pretty cheap gambler $20.00 a shot is all you're getting from me and I'll keep jamming it in the machine until it stops sending it back to me. I usually get smart after day 2, so that's $40.00.

Let's see what we have here

Excursions $320.00 - $420.00 per person
Food and stuff on shore $440.00
Drinks $105.00
Gambling & bingo $90.00

TOTAL $955.00 - $1055.00.

I estimated $500.00 for me because I'm booking (and paying for) shore excursions before we leave. Plus, I'm bringing my own drinks, so I'm right at my estimate. There are plenty of shore excursions that cost less than the ones I picked out. (Well I didn't pick out the ziplining, I was drafted!). You can spend more or less, it's all up to you!
