Default Bringing Beer on Board

My wife and I will be sailing on Valor 03/04/07. This is are 5 th cruise. On my past cruises I have always managed to get at least a case of beer by security and usually a six pack at each port of call. However it has been a few years since I cruised and I know security must be tighter.Has anybody had any experinces bad or good bringing on beer or hard alchol?

We usually bring beer and/or alcohol on board and ALWAYS bring alcohol on board from Nassau. Our most recent cruise was Dec. 2006 and we had no problems with bringing them aboard. I brought 7 bottles of liquor onboard in Cozumel and was able to take them to my room with no problems. I just walked straight to my room and didn't ask any questions of the staff.

I think you''ll have a harder time getting it on now.

Personally I dont think its worth the trouble for beer.

Liquor is another animal as the markup on mixed drinks is way more than beer. A bottle of rum could yield about $50-$75 in drinks at bar prices.

Kind of off topic:
I found out WHEN we got to customs that they don't look at all.
I claimed our two bottles of wine and he didn't even look.

If I had known, I would have grabbed Smirnoff BLUE at 12 bucks and Jose Cuervo at 15 bucks for 100 litre bottles from the ship.

Same thing runs me 30-35 a bottle here.

I would not get too comfortable with the fact that you have not seen them look at customs. It does happen and I know from experience. I purchased a box of Cuban cigars in Cozumel and tried to get them in coming off the RCCL Voyager of the Seas about 4 years ago. Wouldnt you know it! I got caught. I was lucky all they did was confiscate them. The customs inspector told me that had I confessed he probably would have let me keep them. I was also checked over pretty well in San Diego coming off the Celebrity Mercury.

At the disembarkation meeting the cruise director advised that, if caught, I would only have to pay 3% of the value of the booze.
Is this true?

Actually, playing by the rules keeps the stress down.

Wow! When I have seen others bring back alcohol from the ports, it is immediately confiscated and saved for the end of the cruise. I, myself, have been a victim so I speak from the experience.

I also am impressed with some of your successes ! I tried with a six pack of Red Stripe (or was it Bank's ?) a few cruises ago and got it confiscated immediately and held until disembarkation Day !

My wife wanted to keep the wine bottle we bought while having dinner at Cagney's.
The bottle was held until the end of the cruise and it was EMPTY.

Making sure there was NO gray area, I guess.

My secretary did not get her lugage to her room then was asked to report to some room down below. They told her all caes were sent thru a machine when they came on board and hers has a probelm. Bottle of liquor, they took it away until the last day of the cruise.
Just got off the Victory and in Ocho we came on with 2 bottles and the guy at securty told us to take it to the lady and turn it in until the last day and watched that we did so. Even when the big ruch was going on they made sure it was not taken any further. The lady said they have been told to watch it more closely.
