Noticed that you haven't gotten any replies yet, so I thought I'd offer you one. We sailed over Christmas (pretty close to Jan 2007

) and this ship is still in excellent shape. It was refurbished after Hurricane Katrina and has the new Carnival bedding - the beds are wonderful. Carpeting and walls all in great shape as are the bathrooms. The crew is constantly cleaning, painting, polishing, etc. Ventilation in the cabins was great over Christmas (maybe because it was warm, not hot out) and the first time we sailed on the Holiday, we noticed a sewage smell in parts of the ship and this last cruise we did not, so that is an improvement. The mini-golf course was a new feature and a very popular one - more people on the formerly topless deck that we have seen before. I don't think you will be disappointed. Yes, it is an old ship and if you look really, really close, you can spot some age and this ship does not have the latest and greatest decors and high-tech features, but the crew is fabulous and more than makes up for some tarnished brass.
