Default Why I love my PVP

I know a lot of people have great travel agents but I have to say I think I have the best Carnival PVP. I've booked four trips with her and she has done nothing but take care of me and my wife and now another couple sailing with us on 7/7/07 on the Liberty. I realize that's their job, but as many of us know people don't always put that extra effort in the way she does. She's already had two letters sent to the company from us and will be getting a third.

I called her at 330am today(Sunday) while at work and left her a message asking her to check (on Monday) if there have been any rate changes, if the silly rumors about Costa Rica were true about the port being skipped and to get an updated bill. Well I came into work today and found a fax sitting in my dispatch area showing that I had received my thrid discout on this trip saving us another $120.00 per person totaling our saving to around $800.00 per couple since booking June of 06 as well as a deck upgrade to the Lido and turning down an upgrade to the Panorama Deck.

I'm just happy with the service I have recieved and felt like posting it. If anyone is looking for a good PVP send me a private message and I'll pass her name along.

Happy sailing everyone

Rich

What a joy to read something positive!!!

And good for you, outdoors, for taking the time and trouble to write letters of recommendation to your PVP's superiors!

Good job, Ms. Outdoor's PVP, and good job, outdoors!

Please forgive my ignorance here...but, if the rate happens to lower before sailing--you can get a discount? Is that even if you booked with a TA instead of PVP? Errr...what is a PVP?

A PVP is a Carnival Personal Vacation Planner. I, too, have a great one, so we have the possibility of 3 wonderful ones. I have recommended him to all of my friends and all are very pleased with his work.

I used to have a great TA until she left the business to stay home with kids, and a friend recommended Justin. I have booked all of my cruises with him for the last 7 of them and I get better service from him than from my TA (who I had for 10 years).

As with every customer oriented business, you will find a few PVPs that are not top notch, but very few from what I have been hearing lately.

Honestly, if you haven't found a travel agent who beats Carnival's prices from booking directly with PVP, you just haven't found the right agent.

If an agent WANTS to, they can beat Carnival direct prices every time!

Personally I want my agent working for me, rather than working for the cruise line I'm buying from.

Please tell me it was not Jeffrey, this would just break my heart.
But I do agree with the other post, don't let anyone pressure you. It is a lot of money even if you get the best deal out there. The most important think (IMO) is to feel comfortable with the cruise, the price and the booking agent. Whoever you decide to book with, Good luck.

But, technically, the agent is not working for you. He/she is working for themselves! I think their commission is always going to be their main objective.

I have to say though, I am surprised to see that an independent travel agent will get you better prices than a Carnival Personal Vacation Planner. I was thinking I got the best deal thru them.

How many clients does each PVP handle? Mine is great. He always e-mails me back very quick and has answered all the stupid questions I have asked. Just was wondering how many clients he can handle at one time. Do they have a limit, or just as many as they can get? How are they assigned a client to begin with. I know it is up to them to keep that client happy. I don't remember how I was put in touch with mine the first time. But, I am glad I am using him.

Did you know that there are approximately 700 PVP's? I got that number from my PVP Jorge.

I love my PVP and I stick with him till near final payment.. THEN.. I go shopping to see what TA will give me the best price. Usually it is a major Cruise specialist that can give me a Piece back of their commission.

On my current cruise I have a price quote that will save me an additional $275. This will go back to that TA as I will book my Travel Insurance with them.

I use a couple of different large TA's that I have used or friends have used. They book thousands of cruises a year..

You may want to read this article, about this subject, that I wrote just a few weeks ago
http://www.cruisemates.com/articles/...upthephone.cfm
The Carnival PVP is selling cruises for the price Carnival sells them for. Any agent can get the exact same price. BUT, their commissions are payed out of that price. They can choose to reduce that price by discounting from the commissions.

Carnival does allow you to book with them and then transfer the complete booking to a travel agent. So you can book, and then shop your booking.
In those cases it means less work for the TA, so they should be willing to discount.

Technically true, but the are acting as your agent/representative to the cruise line. If you have a problem during your cruise that needs to be addressed after returning a travel agent's relationship with the cruise line will get them to the "right people" quicker.

I'd love to hear some stories of people who had problems arise, and had their PVPs go to bat for them to straighten it out with the cruise line.

We love our Carnival PVP.. She knows just what we like Has always gotten us good discounts. We just saved $900 on our Alaska Cruise. We have gotten to know her personally, her family as well as stories of her travels.
We always praise her on our comment card and Carnival informs her of our comments.. Yeah Leslie!!!

Hello everyone,

Well I didn't mean to stir the pot and get debates going over TA's and PVP's like I think I have. I just wanted to praise our PVP for her hard work and the fact that she has worked harder for me than I think any TA would here in Massachusetts.

Today for example, even after getting the fax yesterday (Sunday) and the updated balance on my account with Carnival she still called my to let me know a new bill was mailed out today and to answer my questions on Costa Rica. I decided to ask her why she was working on a Sunday and she said she usually checks her messages once a weekend even when she's out of state visiting her fiance. In my opinion that's pretty good. She also said that she knew of a past guest summer special so when she checked it she found that it applied to our sialing and got us the credit. So what I can I say, bottle line is that since booking in June 06 she's knocked off almost $800.00 on our trip and our friends trip plus gotten us up to the Lido Deck.

As far a Costa Rica goes and I haven't read the posts today on here. She said that Carnival is still going to be going there, but if another incident occurs they wil be pulling out for good and finding another port in the area and it won't be Rotan according to her.

Have a good night folks and for those that PM'd me, I hope the info on our PVP was helpful. Happy sailing everyone.

Rich

PS Kuki my PVP did go to bat for us on something that happened on the Pride a few years ago. Maybe that's not common but she did.

I am so confused! After you have booked your travel, and placed your deposit, you can go shopping to lower the price that you just booked?
Can you shop better prices once you are paid in full?
TIA

Well mine is terrible (Jeannette Mojica). After I read this post yesterday I emailed her (because the price has dropped) and she hasn't gotten back to me. However, she sent me a "Bon Voyage" email, so I know she has gotten my messages. When I booked, she was definitely pushy. Any suggestions on new PVP's?

Actually you didn't "stir the pot".. in a negative sense at all. These boards are for discussions, and that's what resulted, so that's a good thing!

If everyone just posted and agreed about everything there'd be very little learning to going on

If you're happy with the PVP you use in terms of both service and price I'm honstely delighted for you! But.. did want to make it clear that it doesn't mean you are getting the best price available.

There's a whole other issue I'm dealing with in this thread, and franky not sure what to do.
The original post asks people to PM you for the name of your PVP. If that said PM me for the name of my Travel Agent that would be edited immediately, as it is soliciting readers, which is strictly against our Terms of Service. It's a form of advertising, which is not acceptable.

If we're going to be fair, it's no different soliciting for your PVP, even if you are simply trying to reward her for her good service to you, by sending her more customers. And that's not really any diiferent than if people were trying to send business to their TA. And then we get the TAs posting recommending themselves with anonymous posts. And tour operators recommending themselves.

There's no doubt in my mind that your motives were honerable, and that's why the entire post remains as it was. But, next time.. please, honor your PVP as much as you like with positive comments, but don't solicit PMs to direct business to them. It's really not allowed.

I used to swear by PVP's but since Kuki has pointed someone else, I am now using them for my business.

Kuki, do you mean if someone PM's me and ask who I use for a PVP I cannot tell them? Someone did, in fact 2 people did, and I saw no problem with telling them in a private message. Was that wrong? Didn't know we couldn't do that

No, that's definitely NOT what I mean. I'm saying you shouldn't post on the boards soliciting people to contact you for the name of your PVP or Travel Agent.

If someone posts asking for the name of a good TA or PVP, you should feel free to e-mail them or private message them wth an answer.
All anyone has to do is click on a posters name to be able to contact them privately, so it's simple.

The difference is that in this case you are responding to a question by a poster.

If you simply post to the boards that you have a great PVP or Travel Agent, and people should contact you for their name, and it's not a reply to someone's question, you are in fact soliciting them.

Well I've got a good one. Last September, the wife and I were supposed to go on a cruise on the Holiday as a granduation gift to my wife for finishing graduate school. It was just a short 4-day getaway on the Holiday. I booked it last minute with my PVP, got a great price (or so I assume), and since we were so close to the sail date and it was so cheap I didn't buy any vacation insurance.
Well, as fate would have it, I got admitted into the hospital just days before we were to leave. I wound up having to have emergency surgery and was out of commission for some 5 weeks. Needless to say, we could not go on the cruise. My wife got in contact with our PVP to report we could not make the cruise. We knew we were too close to the sail date to get any refund, and had no insurance, so we assumed this was just a costly casualty to my unfortunate situation.
In steps our PVP. He talked with my wife at length and convinced her to write a letter to Carnival and explain everything that had happened just to see what they would do. He told us where to send it and called ahead to let them know it was coming.
Long story short, Carnival, with the help of our PVP, gave us a FULL CREDIT of what we paid for the missed cruise. The only hitch was we had to use the credit within a year. So here we are, 6 months later, I'm fully recovered and we are booked to go on the Fantasy in 8 days!

Default Can you change your PVP after you're booked?

I've been reading all of your comments and I'm beginning to think I may need to change PVP's! This is my first time to deal directly with Carnival and I thought things were fine because the PVP I have was SO nice & helpful while booking. But I've called him a couple of time with questions and I get the feeling I'm irritating him. Plus he almost laughed in my face (ear actually) when I mentioned any type of available upgrades or OBC. I can't even imagine having him call me with a good deal!

Can you change PVP's after you're booked! I sure would like to be spoiled by my PVP!!!

PVP's make.. 150 calls a day as mine informed me when I asked. I make close to 80 a day as an executive recruiter. So I always say to give them a business day to return a call. They have so many clients that it is impossible that they will call you to tell you when your cruise price has dropped. That is what the benefit of these boards do. Someone is bound to let you know that there is a sale. You should get an email either from Carnival or your PVP when the prices drops. But it is up to us to let them know. My PVP always will check when I call and congratulates me on letting him know.

He is aware that I will pull my booking right before final payment. He always agrees that he cannot compete if a TA gives back part of their commission.
Now a TA with a large CRUISE only agency is more likely to part with a piece of their commission as it is a numbers game and they book tons of cruises.

I have three large agencies I have either used for a cruise or friends have used that I call. I tell them right out that I have a guaranteed booking with Carnival and that I am looking to transfer the booking for the best extra discount. I also tell them that I will book the Travel Insurance with them.
All these agencies have cheaper insurance than carnival and my PVP agrees. So they will get commission on this too.

I've definitely heard enough in this thread to know I will never book another cruise through a PVP, even though mine has been good to us. I do think it's stinks, though, that the industry that ruined online cruise booking is now going to be the one to make a killing off my reservations.

I so disagree.. I need my PVP till I get to final booking otherwise I would not get all that extra discount. If you book direct with a TA I have found that most won't give much extra..

Plus I find it simplier to go to my PVP with each new price change. I can refresh my Carnival site and see the corrected price within SECONDS>

In my experience to get the BIGGEST extra discount you have to let them know you are shopping around.

Now i would imagine that after you have built a relationship with a TA and let them know what your expecatations are to stay with them, then maybe this discount would be forthcoming up front.
