I am cruising from Galveston to Progresso, and Cozumel. I have Sprint PCS service. Has anybody been able to use their Sprint phones at any of these ports? Anybody get any service providers from the ship or Mexican ports?

Check with Sprint either online or by phone. You may have to add the international call feature to send/receive calls. Also confirm with them the charge per minute from your port destinations - some may be high, some not.

I sailed the Ecstasy 9-2006 and I also have Sprint service.
You need to call the customer service line or *2 from your phone (atleast 30 days ahead of sailing) and have them add international roaming. You will not need to change your phone over from digital to automatic or roaming, it will work under "sprint" setting. BE SURE they give you the code to make any outgoing calls while you are in port...if not, you will have to wait on a rep to assist with the call...it wasn't alot of numbers to dial before maybe 3-5 ( I can't recall ). There is no montly fee for this, no additional per minute charge, they only bill $1.00 per min of airtime used....not like the standard roaming of .xx per min + long distance charge.
Why do you want to use your phone. One of the reasons we love cruising so much is we get completely away. We have a large family and are very blessed, but there is always a crisis somewhere when we have so many love one. For one week at a time we HIDE

I had international service added to my phone (Verizon) at no charge. The Verizon rep did tell me that calling from the ship is a $2.49 per minute charge added on by Carnival for the service of being able to make calls from the ship. I think most of the Carnival ships now have cell coverage.
I have Verizon and I know it worked in cozumel, I didn't make any calls but I had several bars. I also recommend two way radios if you are just trying to contact people with you on the island.

Bars don't really mean it worked. You wouldn't have been able to connect unless you had international dialing added.
