I am debating about getting a passport for my son now or waiting until this summer when he turns 18. Does it matter? Or should I just get it now? (like will he get a "child's passport" that I would have to renew when he turns 18? otr is it just a regular ol' passport?)
thanks in advance!

It looks to me like your 17 year old will be considered an "adult" when applying for a passport and the passport will be good for 10 years.
If I were you, I'd go ahead and apply for his passport, but also get another certified copy of his birth certificate (the original has to be sent in with the passport application), since it's now taking so long to get a passport.
