Default Complaints!

I was on a cruise when Rita hit in 2005. We had some issues on the ship like the ATM not working for 5 days, the ship staff not telling us that the cruise was extended 2 days (we found out from the carnival web site on the internet) and some passengers were allowed to make free phone calls from their rooms but not all guests were allowed to do so. (To make changes with travel arrangements due to the delay)

Anyway, to the point: It was my understanding that some guests received on-board credit for their next cruise and other received a discount on their next cruise and others will receive a free bottle of wine on the next cruise... I am not a big complainer but wondering what others have received for inconveniences when cruising..and what one has to do to receive it?

By the way, the extra 2 days at sea was not an issue!

This is one of the reasons boards like this are so important.

ATM's should never be relied on. At best they have money for the first couple of days. Always go with enough cash if possible.

I have never heard of just part of the ship being rewarded for a hard ship. Wish it wasn't so long ago, or we might be able to find someone else on that cruise.

What would be considered enough cash? Can someone give me some advice here? I like to gamble a little and I want to have enough cash to buy stuff in cozumel. I know money is a touchy subject, but maybe just a ballpark. We will be cruising Thursday thru Monday. Any suggestions?? Would you just suggest cash or would you suggest Travelers Checks??

It doesn't bother me to tell you what I take. On a seven day cruise, I get from the bank, around 500.00 to 800.00 dollars.

I get nothing over a 20.00 and anywhere from 50.00 to 100.00 in one's and fives.

Anything over a 20 is hard to cash in a foreign country and even some American businesses.

I start using this money almost as soon as we pull out of the driveway. Fast food etc. Remember, on a cruise ship the only place to use cash is for tips if you give extra, and the casino. Even there you can use your on board account.

I have yet to use all the cash that I get from the bank, but I know that if something comes up, I will be prepared. It also keeps me from having to go to the bank as soon as we get home, after the cruise.

I of course never carry that much money around on the ship, or even excursions. I use the room safe as our little bank, and we take out what we need.

Luanne

My question is, why wait until over a year to bring up this complaint? :o

I agree....if I even heard a rumor that some people were getting things such as free phone calls to make changes to travel plans, I'd be right there in line on the ship making a nuisance of myself until they gave me equal treatment.

Luanne is right about taking more than you think you will need; I set a budget of $120.00 per day, as I like to gamble just a little and I am not a big shopper. Also, keep in mind if you drive to the Miami port; parking is $12.00 a day and they only take CASH. I don't recall the prciing at Port Everglades or Tampa, which I think is pretty much the same and they probably only take CASH.

I think the prices have gone up. I read it was $15 a day. Any one parked in Miami recently?

Parking in Miami is $15.00 / day cash only.

I like to gamble so I usually take about $3000.00 for a seven day cruise. Most people won't need this much.

Also, on most cruises I have been on the ATM runs out of money.

Also with the ATM's I believe someone complained once about being charged a machine fee for with drawing money on the ship.

Luanne, when they drew the money on the ship, did they do a good enough job that it was not seen as conterfeit?

I think she meant withdrawing from the machine... You took that pretty literal............Do you really think they drew it on paper? I would guess you work for the government!

Oohhh. A belt below the belt!! Of course I was joking, everyone else would know that :o . Wow, you have to have thick skin to be in the pool and not get sunburnt. I was just on another thread and you were mentioned on it and I kiddingly said something in reply and mentioned I didn't think I had ran across you. I then saw this thread again and realized that I had seen you on here. Understand, I don't look hard at the posters but at what they have posted and if it requires an understanding of the poster, I will review the post and judge accordingly.

Yes, as I matter of fact, I DO work for the government, proud of it, and now, I will be watching you . Next time, read before you leap.

I have never asked for a discount because of my position in employment. In addition, it is against our Departmental policy to solicit discounts. To do so is cause for dismissal. I am in the closing stretch of my career and am eligible for retirement in 6 months, so I won't rock the boat.

I have received discounts though, by being a past guest and that is a a citizen and is available to all past guests.

That was not the question. I heard the cruiselines offer discounts to people that live in the same state as the port.

I have not heard of that being available in a home port.

My TA through Carnival said they offer discounts to people from different states. You might want to look into that.. Might only be for last minute cruises but not sure..

Regarding "How Much Cash to Bring"

First, we are not gamblers so...... We take $100/per port Plus $100 for desembarking tips, misc., etc. If driving, we put the pre-determined parking fees in an envelope for the glove box to keep until we arrive at the port. This is for both of us.

Second, we only go ashore with $100 in small bills. We use Amercian Express for most purchases in ports. Safer than cash.

Third, on the last night before we disembark, we post all excess cash to our cabin charges

For a 7 day cruise we usually take about $500. in cash with $50. of that being in ones and I try to get as many $2.00 bills as I can. I just think that makes for a more unusal tip. We normally give our wait staff additional tips the last night. And we normal tip a waiters and waitresses when we are out in the evening, (15% of our drink tab just does not seem sufficient). We usually never spend more than $200.00. Everything else goes on our Discover Card for points then we pay that off when we get home.
