Default Public Beach near Nassau Port...

Is there a beach within 10-15 minutes walking distance from the port dock or, alterntively, a nice hotel that lets non-guests pay a small fee to use their beach, pool, bathroom, eat at their restaurants, etc. for the day? If so, do you have to call them in advance to arrange that or can you just show up? We thought we'd hang out there from 11 to 2, then hit the Staw Market, pirate museum and a few other things near the pier or along that walking tour near the port then head back to the ship at 5 for dinner.

This topic is DEFINITELY covered in many many posts, it seems everyone is interested in going to the beach there.

I've only been to Nassau once and I followed advice from this post. Pick up the #10 jitney (public bus) along the main drag for $1 each and tell them you want to go to the Wyndham Crystal Palace Hotel. It takes about 10 minutes and he dops you off out front of the hotel. Just walk straight thru the lobby (the hotel employees just assume you are one of the thousands staying at their hotel) and out to the pool and beach. Its really that easy. I was skeptical but did exactly that and we got to hang out there all day! When you want to go back, just wait outside the hotel on the street and another #10 will come by and bring you back to within 100 ft of the cruise terminal. You can do it!

We walked to the beach , get off the ship, take a rt, and it is just a little past the straw market, we did not stay that long as it was not that nice, but it will work if you must get something in walking distance.

thanks Mike and Gail, I really wanted to just find a beach where we could relax, spread out a blanet on the sand, walk in the surf, collect seashells, take photos - are there any beach chairs available there? Any activities available such as basketball or volleyball? A food cabana?

The beach that is within walking distance from the ship is the British Colonial Hilton, after you walk off the cruise ship you will pass through a building with vendors, tour guides and a post office. (this is not the straw market) exit the building, go to the street, turn right, politely say no to "braid your hair lady", you will walk past the straw market and senior frogs, the hotel is just a little bit farther. Go in to the hotel lobby, request a day pass, I think they are $15 per person, you will have use of the pool, bathrooms, beach, and there is food and beverage for a nominal fee of course. Now, that being said, in my honest opinion there are far better beaches to visit to get the true beach experience, the hotel area is nice, but it is in the harbor where the boats come in from the ocean. There won't be any waves to play in, and probably very few sea shells, but , it is close to the cruise ship.

As posted by others, you can take the jitney (bus) to Cable beach area, and there are hotels that will allow use of there facilities as well.

You can also take a cab across the bridge to Paradise Island near the Atlantis
that is Cabbage Beach.

Hope this helps!

Can a person swim on the beach at Atlantis? If so what is the charge? Last time I was there no-one was using the beach.

I was going to mention Cable Beach myself, but it is a long walk.

Cable Beach is about 15 minutes away and has the Wyndham and Nassau Beach Hotel. $15 entry fee and you can use their facilites, pools, beachs, bar and grill etc. Take a cab ($6 per person) or the Jitney bus from downtown ($1)

Does the Wyndham Crystal Palace pool have a water slide similar to the Atlantis Hotel?

This is my 1st post! Thank you

The Crystal Palace pool has a real cheesy kids waterslide that makes like 2 turns and then into the pool. Its about 10 feet high and built into a fake rock wall.

I didn't pay the $15 fee and used the pool and beach all day. I would feel worse about that but i think i paid my dues to their casino that day too

Do most of the hotels have casinos there?

To tell you the truth, i'm not sure. I know there is one at Atlantis and one at Crystal Palace. I really like the one at CP, and during the day it wasn't crowded and the tables were reasonably priced.

I've never heard of other hotel-casinos, but that doesn't mean there aren't any! Sorry.

I went swimming at Atlantis, its nice were as I was unaware of paying money to go swimming in their pool I thought it was only for guest but I did not do my research. I highly suggest going to a hotel and using their entrance to the beach..much cleaner and much nicer.
