Leaving from San Juan in 3 days....................

This will be our first cruise and are wanting to know if it would be worth our time to leave the ship after checking in and walk/take trolley around San Juan, shopping/site seeing. We will be arriving at the ship around 3pm, our check in time. I understand that there is a meeting at some point in time about Camp Carnival, which we want to attend (we have a 5 year old). We will not have time to explore San Juan upon returning to port since we leave in the early afternoon. If you have any opinions I would love to hear them.

Being that this is your first cruise I would say not to bother with a short sightseeing tour of San Juan. I would go aboard as early as possible, get settled in your cabin, put on some comfortable cruise duds and explore the ship getting familiar where the main centers of activity are - main dining room, pools, public rooms, etc. getting the "lay of the land" as it were. Get ready for an enjoyable experience !
