Default This is why I am flying the day before

I had an early AM fight booked from Stewart Newburgh NY to Orlando. I was to get in around 11:50 AM.

Jet blue just emailed and said sorry for the inconvenience, but you are leaving now at 11:50 getting in at 2:45.

Thank my lucky stars that I am flying the day before.

Brian

When cruising we always fly in the day before........
Reasons:
1) Start the vacation a day earlier
2) Won't miss the cruise incase of flight cancellations/delays
3) Time to see the port town
4) Start the vacation a day earlier (oops)

Brian, since when did Jet Blue start flying out of Newburgh ? I use to live in New Paltz and still have friends there ? What town do you actually live in ?

I live in Marlboro (Actually Milton, but you probably never heard of it. It is very small).

Jet Blue started around the first of the year. They have two flights per day to Orlando and some to other places. I know Vegas, but I not sure about those details.

don't forget the chance to over come jet-lag....and relax and unwind and get into VACATION mode, before you board.

these are the main reasons we fly in the day before.
We like to board early, and really count the first day as part of our cruise.

don't forget luggage delays.

When we went to Miami, we got to Miami about an hour late......our luggage didn't actually make the trip until the next flight down--an hour and a half after us. As we were standing in line to file a claim on lost luggage, there was a group ahead of us sailing with Royal Caribbean, and their cruise representative told them they didn't have time to stand in line to file a claim, that they had to go to the ship "now" to make it in time.

OH yes..... luggage delays. I agree.

I have also had that happen to me. My luggage didn't make it to Miami until the next day. I was still worried, since the cruise was leaving the next day...but the luggage was delivered to the hotel by 7am the next morning. I would have missed my luggage if we were sailing out the same day we flew in.

yikes~!

I'm flying in the day before, and flying home the day after, because my son and I are flying for free (American Airlines) with our frequent flyer miles. The choices of free flights are limited and it's nice to know we don't have to worry about luggage delays, cancelled flights or anything else going wrong as our ship sales away without us. We will get in 9:30 p.m. the night before, and will have all Thursday afternoon and evening in Orlando to enjoy before leaving Friday morning.

I had an airline somehow "lose" my luggage on a non-stop flight between Newark and Ft. Lauderdale, same day as I was cruising. Since we got to Florida for 9am, that should have left plenty of time...the twelve year old (well, he LOOKED that young) at Baggage claim assured me it would be on the next flight, due in an hour.

Three flights later, no luggage.

Not the way to start an 8 day cruise to the "exotic" western caribbean. I was near hysterical arguing with Continental from my cel phone on the balcony right before the ship left...they not only couldn't tell me where my luggage was, they insisted they had 48 hours to get it to me without penalty.

I will say Carnival was wonderful...I informed them at the pursers desk, they took my info, gave me a credit in the gift shop and for formal wear, told me I was not to worry about anything. When we got to Belize, my bag was there. Considering they hadn't had anything to do with everything that went wrong, I was pretty impressed.

In any event, knowing that I seem to be a magnet for lost luggage, I now always arrive for a cruise at least one day early.
