Does anyone know if you can purchase cans of beer, in 6 packs or by the dozen anywhere in Costa Maya? If so, any idea of the prices? We realize that they will be held when we get back on the ship and that is ok, we want to take some home to share.
Thanks so much for your assistance, DH is not overly particular, will take the local, imported, whatever is available as long as it is in cans and not bottles, so it can be transported back to Canada without any fear of breakage (assuming the cans don't burst :-) we have taken them back before and I packed them securely in checked baggage)
If you do get some, don't forget to claim with customs when you get back home and you do have a limit to import into country.

Definitely, we are allowed a 24 - pack each, in the last couple of years we did a 4 day post cruise in whatever port we used, therefore we were able to pick up the amount locally and packed it to bring back to Canada, however, hubby decided that this time we would do a 4 day pre-cruise and therefore we will be flying back home the same day we get back in port and will have no opportunity to purchase/pack the beer. With the new regulations about bringing it on board (we thought to buy it in Fort Lauderdale and carry it on board the ship, sort of counting on them "holding" it for us) but now we are nervous about it being confiscated and not returned, so we thought maybe if we could buy some in Costa Maya, it would be held when we got back on board and we could pack it the night before. As well, with airline restictions for the carryons, the beer has to be put in the checked luggage, not carried onboard like we did the last couple of trips. We are going to Costa Rica and Panama as well but Mexico seemd like the best possiblity of buying the beer unless anyone else can advise otherwise.
Thanks
Yep, we took the allotted 48 cans between us back last year and the year before, flying from Florida back to St. John's Newfoundland and never had a bit of trouble. We packed it in the checked luggage, I made sure it was well situated amongst the clothes and well wrapped in case it leaked. Also, his daughter lives in Ohio and the other daughter here travels back and forth as well, they always bring the allotted 24 pack and have never had any problems either. FYI, the beer here for a 24 pack is about $45, on the other hand we can get it in the US for about $10-$12 per 12 pack. We are not big liquor drinkers but hubby likes his beer. The price in the US of course, is dependant on the brands but he likes trying different ones so the brand doesn't really matter.

That's funny. We go to Canada for cheaper prescription drugs and you come here for cheaper beer. Sounds like there could be a trade agreement.

! Trade agreement on Beer!! As a transplanted FIB from Chicago I am ashamed to admit I do wish we could get Wisconsin's Leinenkugel"s beer here in Houston. Oh and if we could get the state of Ohio to allow the Amish to export trail bologna outside of Ohio !!
I have just returned from Chicago with a 6 pk of Leinies in my checked bags with no problem. The TSA guy did examine the 5 pound chub of trail bologna in my carry on. Wonder what it looked like on the xray screen ??!!!

20 years ago we had Johnny Cash, Bob Hope and Steve Jobs. Now we have no Cash, no Hope and no Jobs. Please don't let Kevin Bacon die.
I love my beer also.
2 years ago the 6 or so Red Bulls I packed for the cruise, in checked luggage "BURST" with excitment some where between Ohio and Miami. I guess its a coin toss.
