Soda's or not?

O.K., I know this subject has been tossed around on the board quite a bit, but has anyone cruised since the no beverage rule? Can we or can't we take our own soda's. I am cruising this week.

I am not sure about the beverage rule, but I am also from Birmingham and am going on the Holiday on the 14th, what are you sailing on this week?

We haven't traveled since the new rule went into effect but go check on Cruise News 4-4--07. It states that you can no longer take on board nonalcoholic drinks including water. One bottle of wine per adult is allowed. Abuse of the allowance of these items has caused the new rules. Water is included due to those who would put vodka in water bottles. It says these items will be confiscated by cruise personel and discarded.
We will be traveling in 32 days to Colon, Panama on Carnival Liberty. Went with friends on Holiday and Fascination in the past few years. Loved them all even with 4 women in one cabin on one trip but wouldn't do that again.

This new rule is just a way for the cruiselines to make more money, and charge over priced rates on soda, water, and liqour. :evil: I really dont' think they will have the time to search everybag for these items. However I don't buy soda's I drink iced tea and fill up my own water bottle on the lido deck which tastes just fine, and saves me money. I also carry powdered Gatoraide and mix with water for shore excursions, good idea so you don't become dehydrated!

I don't think you will have a problem packing some in a suit ase. The cruise line wants us to lock our suitcase's anyway so this time I will...

Guests may bring a small quantity of non-alcoholic beverages. All alcohol, additional quantities of wine/champagne or excessive quantities of non-alcoholic beverages will be confiscated and discarded without compensation.

I looked at the web site listed abobe by jleq and called Carnival. They said since there web site still says we can carry on small amounts that we can.. The TA through Carnival put some note on my booking stating I read it on the web site and since it is still there they will follow there own policy, and I should not have any problem carrying some on-board.

Actually, the last time we cruised, we just put the liquor bottles in our checked bags....I think we may have transferred it into plastic bottles and then wrapped all of it in a ton of garbage bags.

We really only need the stuff to make the margaritas I like...tequila, cointreau, brandy and sweet and sour mix. Oh, and the salt...oh and the lemon in case someone wants to get a little crazy!

I do plan on getting my fair share of frou frou drinks......so save me a place at the bar!

I actually bought some no carb/no cal margarita mix called Zilch that I'm going to try at home first, as soon as I get some tequila. I've already been yelled at by a margarita nazi that I shouldn't drink frozen ones so please don't give me a hard time about trying a powdered mix to save 500 calories a drink! That lets me have extra pizza lol.

These people must be desperate for money. I don't have any problem with alcoholic beverages but soda and water!!

If I run into problems in this area my first Carnival cruise will be my last.

It's not a matter of not having enough money or being desperate, it's once you cruise you will save every penny you can to cruise ASAP again...
