Default Transportation from Houston to Galveston

Considering a cruise from here. Does Carnival offer transportation? If so how much does it cost? If not what other means are availible and aprox how much will it cost? Im not good at driving in strange cities and my navigational skills seriously lack, is there a charter bus or a train?

Yes, Carnival has a contractor for the transportation. There is also a company called Galveston Limoseine (sp) that has been in business for decades.

! Having been born and raised in Chicago I can understand your thinking there might be a train service. Unfortunately, SE Texas just doesn't see the wisdom in a train service from Houston to Galveston.
There used to be Amtrak but that was d/c 'd.

Leave plenty of time for the ride down to Galveston. Traffic is usually heavy going that way. I would arrive the night before and stay at a hotel...maybe the Harbor House...its right at the pier and parking is cheap.

We rented a car at Houston Intl. for the drive to Galveston. We took the Carnival shuttle back after our cruise. The shuttle scheduling wasn't very good that day. We ended up waiting in the parking lot for a couple of hours. I heard it was because they were later than normal getting us off the ship so the buses had gone to pick up the next round of passengers. We had to wait for them to come back from Houston Intl.

Even though this is the only time we've had bad luck with a Carnival transfer, we will rent a car both ways next time we cruise through Galveston.

Ohhhh!! that would be nice if they could get it F/T. It it an Amtrack type thing?

Imagine if Houston could get the Summer Olympics. Many of the events could be on the island.
