Freeport excursion - port lacaya marketplace

is this like the straw market at all? is it a mall of sorts? trying to decide if the grand bahamas coastal cruise and shopping tour is a borthy excursion. Are there any video game arcardes at the marketplace? snack shops? does anyone know of a website for it - I cant find one.. thanks! we're decideing between this, the junkanoo (but 6 hrs. on the beach is too long for us) and the glass bottom boat ride

yes its a strawmarket and places to eat around it, plus there is a hotel's across the street that you can use the pools to cool off in.

I was just in Freeport a week ago on the Carnival Liberty. If you plan on going to the port lucaya shopping market, I suggest you get a cab/bus ($10 a person round trip but you can bargain with the drivers) It's nothing that special, just another typical souvaneir shopping place, mostly outdoors or under little thatched roofs. There are some places to eat, and you can rent a towel/beach chair across the road at the hotel, although you can't use the pools unless you are a hotel guest. They will check to see if you have the correct color wristband, if not, they will kick you out of the pool (it happened 3 times to my sister and I). The beach is beautiful, and there are 2 bars right on the beach.

What was the name of the hotel? The Sheridan?

I believe so.

We beached it as well, and then walked through the marketplace while waiting for our taxi to return.

The day was so nice, we swam for most of our time there, and never even had a chance to visit a bar.

Freeport is beautiful once you get to the other side.

they changed the policy since I was there last then because we were allowed to use the pool, I don't remember having to pay for any band to use

then yeah, I suppose they did change the policy. But I guess it wasn't too bad because the beach and the ocean are really nice. It's a great place to swim.
