Default Bringing drinks onboard

I know has been brought up over and over - but I'm wondering has anyone cruised in the past few weeks that have carried cokes or water on board in their checked luggage? The last two years we carried two twelve packs of cokes for the 4 of us in our checked luggage - no problems at all -- then I read about the new enforcement of rules. We are going on the Celebration on May 19th and I really need to know - there are 21 of us this year.

The rule change has been reversed. You can still bring a reasonable amount of non-alcoholic beverages on board. They dont say exactly what reasonable amount is but you should be fine.

I don't think I have read of anyone who has had their beverages "confiscated" at embarkation. I would be interested to hear from anyone that has had happen to them, and to know just how much they were trying to bring aboard.

Yes, that would be interesting reading.

Somebody posted that guests on Carnival out of New Orleans had ALOT of drinks confiscated. I searched news articles and local info....found absolutely nothing! I'm bringing water, Diet Dr. Pepper and my margarita stuff. Still plan to buy LOTS of "fou fou" drinks!

I think they would notice a suitcase that weighs half a ton and confiscate it immediately. They seem to be willing to overlook small quantities of illegal liquor but I think that's pushing it.

Well I don't think you would have to worry about the cruise line confiscating it.

Seems to me a suitcase full of beer wouldn't make it past the porters !

So you would still be out your beer , but on the other hand ....it could be considered a great tip .... in which case your other bags would be handled exceptionally well.

My mom went to Nassau, and brought back Kalik (Beer) and just brought it right back on the boat from the port in Nassau....So I dunno, her steward even brough her ice for the beer everyday!

Sure but it wasn't an entire suitcase full and it was coming from a port of call, not basic beer from the city she left from. More like enjoying a souvenir than a way to not pay for beer onboard. She was very lucky and had an easygoing inspector that day. Once you get it in the room, the steward has no say in what you have and will accomodate. When I bought only 2 bottles of special Bahamian rum in Nassau, they were confiscated and I didn't get them back until the end of the cruise.

I had dinner with a family that had their suitcases opened and they were called to the ship when they boarded and asked about some bottles like a bloody mary mix. He said to the crew asking the questions that this is a non acoholic drink and they said to him ok sir sorry. He said he had water bottles filled with vodka and they thought it water and never said anything, The other member of the family had her rum removed from her suitcase and held until the end of the cruise. These are the only people I know who had been questioned and drinks removed before sailing. I have taken wine and a travel size bottle of rum twice and nothing happened. I always bought a ton of the drink coupons and always shared them with others in our party. I spent on board also so I doubt they lost any money with me.

I think it's just like driving over the speed limit. If you're 9 mph over and not weaving in and out, you probably won't get a ticket. If you go 20 mph over and weave like a maniac or it's a speeding crackdown period, you will. The best thing to do if you insist on breaking a rule is to only break it a little and don't call attention to yourself.
