I don't think there is a way to find out just how full a ship is. You can gauge when I ship is "close to full" but "fully full"? I doubt it. Also, I don't think the cruiselines fill all of the cabins. They keep a few for emergencies. I think.

If someone knows a way, let me in on it also.

As far as I know, all cruise lines try to fill the ships completely.

I hve been on ships that are completely full. They love to fill all the cabins. Empty cabins do not make money.

You can go online at Carnival.com and look at the booking screen for your cruise. See how many of each type of cabins are available. If there are not many types of cabins available the ship is close to full.

I have often wondered if they do try to keep some empty cabins just for emergencies as stated before?

I believe full is relative. I do not think they book every cabin. I don't know how many they leave available but I am sure they leave a few. You never know when a cabin will become inhabitable for any number of reasons. They have to have somewhere for the passengers to go.

Or perhaps they do book every cabin knowing exactly what the percentage is of passengers who cancel, no-show or just miss the cruise. Even still, booking every single cabin is risky.

I am on the Liberty 05/26/07 and the only cabins they are still booking are the Cat 1A guarantee and the Cat 4A-4Ds. I keep checking to see if the price goes down and to see how many Cat 4A, 4B, 4C, 4D are left. So far there are 9 cabins per category (but when you make your online reservation, you only get to see 9 cabins at a time anyway). I believe the upgrade fairy's escalator has been to work on this ship already which will explain why the Cat 4's are still available. There is now only Cat. 1A guarantees left.

I booked a Cat. 1A guarantee and have not yet been assigned a cabin. Don't know if that is good or bad.
