Default Trip report Ecstasy April 26, 2007

Hi all,
Liz and I are just back from our cruise on Ecstasy. Oceanview Cabin 145 on the Upper deck. Cabin steward was Isnam I think was his name. As usual we rarely saw him and the room was always very nice and clean.

Starting from the end there was a 3 car accident on the causeway bridge just in time to hold up all those folks leaving the ship and heading home. Hope those with flights made it into Houston in time. We passed it just after it happened so no back up yet.

Debark was, as usual, troublesome. There are many more folks electing to do the self debark these days so it was even more difficult. Very evident when you enter the Customs area and there are few bags waiting for pick up.

It seems there are so many people who either don't listen or don't care that their color/deck was not called and decide to get into the passageways and the line to leave along with those that were called to debark.

We did see a Carnival rep (one of the asst. social hosts) actually call out a passenger who was obviously from a different deck. He said " Hey, what do you think you're doing? Get out of line and go back to the proper staging area ! " We cheered from 2 decks up as we watched this !

OK now for the fun stuff....
The cruise was nice. We were part of a group of 140 insurance people. There were also 2 or 3 high school bands and what seemed like every employee Frito Lay had !!

Great weather all the way ! High humidity in Cozumel (92%) so that made it seem worse that it was.

Went shopping and Liz got her bling. Nice big Rainbow Tanzanite charm for $200 cash. Put it onto a 16 inch gold chain from the Inch of Gold sale on the ship. She also got a really nice Citizen charm bracelet with watch for under $200 on the ship. Added another thingy for her bracelet from Diamond Intl. Can't wait to add ones from San Juan/St. Thomas in November!!

I left my ballcap on the bench by the big clock square in Cozumel. If anyone sees a beige hat with TWFG on it, please grab it and email me !!! I love that hat !! My head and forehead got sunburned without it!

We did the parasailing. $178 thru Carnival for 2 people. Have paid alot less elsewhere. The ride was abit rough, too. We have done this 4 times before so we know what it should be like. Won't be doing it again there.

Had early seating dinner in the Wind Star. Went the first 2 nights then on our own the rest. Good table mates, all from the insurance group, naturally. Had Lego (my Eggo) as the head waiter. Very nice, very good service.

I do have a few issues to raise.
I still think the drainage in the shower/bathroom could be better. There must be some way to channel the water better. Maybe a drain the full area square around the pan instead of the single corner drain.

Though I don't use them much but Liz does , there have NEVER been salt/pepper/catchup etc on the tables in the smoking section starboard side Lido deck from the slide forward.
Why is that ?????

I would like to see greater enforcement of the debark process....anyone seen in the line that is not the color/deck that has been called for should be told to leave the line and wait in another area until called.

OK, I've written enough !!

Gary, coming through Houston on a Saturday should not be an issue. Have you made you reservations in Galveston? Galveston is an easy port to sail from and you will enjoy the island before sailing. I love the Ecstasy! Happy cruising!

Darlene;
I was hoping arriving on Sat. would be a plus. I am going to makes res. at Harbor House. They won't take them yet for after the first of the year. I guess its too early. I will keep checking until I get them. We have some plans in Galv. for Sat. eve and Sun. Looks like a lot to do. Next year we are going to try and do the Conquest. It is nice to be able to drive there instead of flying. I will be asking for more info. on Galv. and the Ecstasy as time goes by.
Thanks For Now.

Gary,

Hope I can help you. Just let me know if you need any info.

I would just follow I 45 south and go all the way, thru downtown, and end in Galveston. Take the first exit (right) after crossing the bridge (Teichman I think is the name of the exit) At the light/stop sign turn left, cross the tracks and follow that road around and out to the piers.

If you want to avoid the city traffic but pays tolls there is a toll road that circles the city. It is called Beltway 8/Sam Houston Tollway. You will end up hitting about 6 tolls at $1.25 each.

If you miss the exit and continue straight you will be on Broadway. Just go to like 28th or 32nd and then turn left and go to where they end at the piers.

Looks like you have plenty of time to plan this stuff. When it does get closer to time just message me and we can exchange phone # in case you need more info.

Phil & Liz;
We will be driving in from KS. So we will have our personal car all the way. Just curious if there is a need on a Sat. to try and avoid any certain areas. I have plenty of time to get info. just like to ask when it pops into my mind. Some things don't stay in my mind long enough to wait. So I need to ask when I can.
Thanks
Gary
