Sailing on the Conquest

Does anyone know anything about the Baymont Inn in Galveston?
We are planning on renting a car at the airport one way so we can sightsee the day before and then taking the shuttle when we get off the cruise ship back to Houston. Would this work??

Grandy,

When you check on renting the car, see about having it round trip and park it at the motel. I know this sounds wild, but have heard it was cheaper.

The motel I have not stayed in, but can do some checking for you, if you like.

That would be great..thanks Luanne We are hoping it will be in a good location. We looked into renting a car for the whole week as opposed to one way and shuttle back. It is about the same.

Wow, very new motel, so not much info, but here goes.

All say that it was a very nice place to stay.

1. Hot Tub is great, but the people in the next motel over can see you having fun, so be careful what you do.

2. It is not located on the beach road(Seawall) but is one street over. Still close enough to walk to the beach.

3. There is a microwave and frig in the room, and also a huge grocery store down the street, so if you didn't want to eat out, you could prepare in your room.

4. Motel is behind a restaurant called the Golden Corral. For those of us here in Texas, it is known for it's buffet style eating. Very good food.

Rooms, all say are very comfortable. But it is a smoke free motel if that is a problem for anyone traveling with you.

I would say this is a good choice.

We are staying at SpringHill Suites in Houston/Hobby airport....free shuttle from airport and even to the ship's port in Galveston. and back to the hotel when you get back from the cruise! They have a Cruise/Shuttle Package....

Checked out you motel and it looks good. It is suppose to be a good distance from food, so be prepared for that, without a car to get any where. Also, I can find no sign of Cruise package. Web site says airport shuttle, and 5 mile radius from the motel. Please make sure you have a back up plan for getting to the port.

Thanks for the information..I did read you VT before we thought about going on the Conquest so now I will re-read it !! Hopeing the weather will be calm in September. Next week we leave on the Spirit for Alaska. Packing warm clothes is strange since it is 100 degrees here in Arizona.
Love to read all your post on Cruisemates.. I'll let you know how the Baymont Inn is. Price was $89/nite

We stayed at Baymont Inn and Suites in January! They had a special for $55/night and since we needed two rooms, we decided to try it. The rooms are very nice and fairly new. I think they said they opened in October of 2006. Each room has a balcony. They have a nice continental breakfast, too. They offer free cruise parking for your entire cruise, however, they don't offer a shuttle and since it is about a 15 minute taxi drive to the cruise terminal, we felt that next time we'll probably park at ezcruiseparking and take advantage of their online rate (and spend about as much as the taxi). There is a Walmart close by, which was nice for the last minute things we thought of that we had forgotten to bring.
