Default Does any cruises have a liquor card like the soda card?

I am kinda worried about the drink prices now. How much on average does a beer cost? My DH is a beer drinker and since we are going with alot of our friends he will be drinking more than normal, which will be alot, lol.... The travel agent said they were about $3.50 but she wasnt real sure. On average what is your booze bill when you leave? Can you check to see what the balance is while you are there? How does it work you order a beer and they take your card just like a credit card or do they take your card first like you run a tab and everytime you get a beer you give them your name? How can I be assured that what I am being charged for I am acutally getting?

Hi Danielle,
When purchasing anything onboard, you will give them your sign/sail card and at the end of the cruise that amount will go on the credit card you give them when you first board. Yes, you can also check it daily, you can even use your cabin TV to check your account. When buying a drink, they will automatically add on the 15% tip. Its true, your account can add up quickly, so just watch it and plan.

Your TA is about right on the cost of beer on the cruise. There is a little bit a price break if you order a bucket. There is not a liquor card (similar to the soda card). Whenever you order a drink, they will take your sign & sail card, and bring back a receipt for you to sign. You get one copy and they keep one copy, so you can verify what you are paying for. The gratuity will be automatically added to the total. On some ships you can check the balance on your sign & sail card in your cabin, on your TV. The other option is to go by the Purser's Desk, anytime, and they will give you a printout of your sign & sail account.

I can't help you with how much your DH drinks, but I hope this helps you. I know you (and your DH) will have a great time! 8)

I'll only add that I did not feel the cost of drinks or beer was out of line with what I pay in a bar or lounge.
The good news is the booze is "free pour" so you can tip for your next drink.
Our bar bill came in at about 400 bucks for 5 days for two of us.

We like Mai Tai's!!!!!!

You can purchase drink coupons for those that like expensive mixed drinks: you get 4 drinks for 19.95 inclusive of tax and tips: these are good to use at the sailaway as taxes are still charged when ship is in US port.

buckets of beer can be purchased: 4 in a bucket for 16.95; that is the best way to go for beer.

msblackjack,
On the one hand, the beer is pricey for a bucket. I paid 3.50 for a Corona on the Pearl, yet 6.50 for a Mai Tai or Long Island Iced Tea.

I believe, (Dina help me out here), that on Carnival, beer is more than 3.50 per beer. I don't recall the exact price, but those who were on board drinking beer said the bucket was the better deal.

The mixed drinks are priced about the same for a "nightclub" but more than your average pub. So really it isn't all that more expensive.

Well gee if the bucket is a better deal that makes the beer priced at the better deal at $4.25 each if the bucket is $17.00, gosh how much more could they be per beer?? That is kinda pricey huh?

I thought Carnival offered alcoholic beverage cards to group cruises....I think you have to have a certain number of cabins and/or people....and everyone has to buy the card, plus be of legal drinking age. My memory isn't great, but I thought the card cost $200.00 per person. Get a TA to check it for you!

If I remember, the single beer is around $5 a piece. So the deal is better if you go with the bucket. The "deal" of the day is some drink in their special glasses which is nice but you are going to pay "club" prices regardless. No $1 beers to be found.

The only cruise that I know of that is booze inclusive is the world cruise and if you can afford that then this topic is mute.

When I called carnival last month, the travel rep I spoke to gave me the prices of the drinks I inquired about. I told him that I was trying to get my budget in order and he was very friendly and patient. He told me that capt morgan and cokes were $4.50, and 16oz domestic beers were $4.00. The price doesn't include the automatic 15% gratuity

Gosh, I hate to show off my beer drinking knowledge and vast experience on cruise ships, but.... Last Sept, on my last cruise, a can of budlight cost exactly $4.56 total, and the 16oz aluminum bottle was $5.18 exactly, are prices still the same?? You'll soon find out!

I live in NYC so the price of a cocktail is NewYorkerifed!!!! (New word, I just made it up.

Anyway, I drink the Foo-Foo drinks. The fruity, slushy concoctions. If I am not mistaken, they are less than $5.00 a piece in a regular glass. Which means that a full night of getting wasted costs me around $25-30 bucks which compared to NY prices, is a steal.

That is on Carnival, when I was on NCL, I paid over $9 for one Bahama Mama.

I drink every night anywhere from 2-6 foo-foos a night. At the end of a 7 day cruise, my bar tab is less than $250. And, yes, in the morning Motrins are my best friend. Now my total tab including pictures , tips, drinks, souvenirs, excusions, and my donation to the casino will come to approximately $500 dollars. I budget $100 a day for my cruises.

I don't do many, if any, ship excursions, I don't purchase pricey souvenirs and I will usually only purchase one, maybe two pictures. So my $$ usually are spent at the bar and casino.

Yes Melody you are correct. I went with a large group on my cruise (40+) and when we had our meeting to disscuss the cruise and sign up it was offered to us by the Carnival rep, and TA that was handling our package. We all decided to go with it. It is called an "Open Bar Card" It is a separate card from the S&S card. The drinks have to be $7 and under, and the tip is included. This option worked well for us!! I paid $980 for my cruise (Ocean View cabin) and all included even the "Open Bar Card"

It sure paid to go with a group and book a year in advance!!!
