I have found onboard Celebrity Cruises the Deejay changed the music to meet the needs/ages in the Disco. This was evident over the December 23-January 8, 2007 Panama Canal Crossing when the ages were so mixed throughout the evening.

On Carnival ships, the music usually starts Old School (60-80) Dance Music and progresses through the decades as the evening wears on but will follow the mood of the crowd.
Unless you are on the Destiny which leaves from San Juan in which case you get 85% salsa and 15% old school/hip-hop/rap.
On the shorter itineraries the music tends to move to the younger set more rapidly. With that God-awful rap music screaming at you by around midnight or so.

we have been on the inspiration, the rock n roll dance club was great, the dj played mostly oldies, 50's 60's 70's , the club is kind of small with dj booth in the middle, on the triumph the hollywood dance club is great, very large, lots of room for sitting, and large dance floor, much like an old disco club, lots of lights, smoke, and tv monitors all over the walls, the music is a great mix , and you can dance into the wee hours of the night.
Luanne, I'm sorry I forgot (VBG), on the Conquest the disco is between
the sewing circle room and where you play bingo every night as part of your swinging night life routine. I thought all you happily married people are in your cabin at 10pm and would not be hanging out at the disco
I'm curious, when you and Jim do go to the disco what is your favorite type of dance ? I bet you two do a mean twist when the DJ plays Chubby Checker (VBG)
On Carnival (usually with a younger crowd) get your ears ready for thumping techno and euro-hip hop !
BTW - Boat ? Boat ????

When I was last on the Conquest the disco was empty every night due to the all night smooth jazz jam sessions which were packed. We stop by there one night on the way to the cabin and woke up the DJ and asked him to play all the songs from Saturday Night Fever and I did my best John Travolta imitation since I was wearing a white suit
Luanne, not that I am listening to you but it' will be on my birthday weekend August 10-12th. We are going to Maine and do a weekend Maine Windjammer cruise (lv 2 pm Friday afternoon back on Sunday morning at 10 am)..The great joy of this is my son and my two brothers and their sons and my best friend and her mom will be celebrating both my birthday and my little brother's birthday (the only other time that we have all been together at the same time is at a funeral)...When we complete the cruise we are having Sunday brunch with my cardiologist and his wife who saved my life during my heart attack in 2003 , who happen to have settled in Maine following the loss of his practice and home in New Orleans after Katrina. My big brother lives in Maine and is retiring from nursing in August (you would really like him he just treated himself to a new harley motorcycle with a side car)
Then next up is the Peter Deilman river cruise in the south of France in early October with my best friend and her mother (who will also be on the smooth jazz cruise on the Elation in Jan 08)
I have received several e-mails this morning about what is going on with Venice and myself.
He and I are buddies. He is forever teasing me. We are also e-mail buddies. We know about each others families, and our beliefs.
Two years ago, Venice was caught up in the terrible tragedy in New Orleans.
He worried about those around him, and I worried about him. Suddenly he disappeared from the boards. I spent weeks trying to find out if he was okay. I did everything but fly down to see if I could find him.
I think my last e-mail to him was that I was praying for him, and if he was dead, I was praying for his family, for their loss.
Suddenly, he shows up a week or so ago, as if all was well, and he had only been gone a day or two.
Now I realize that he is a man. Men don't always think, but he scared me.
Now I have forgiven him, and I am sure that all of you will be subjected to his teasing once again.
"Men don't think ?" hmmmmm let me think about that one for a minute (VBG)
Now back to the original post about the music in the disco. I think the persona of having a disco on the ship is a left over marketing effort by the cruise lines. People don't go to disco's anymore (I haven't been to one since Luanne and I went to Studio 54 years ago on a double date with Warren Beatty and his girlfriend at the time)...People now go out to clubs to dance (Step is the current thing) and if I were the cruise lines I would capitialize on the "Dancing With The Stars" concept and gear more towards couple dancing. I would have a dance lesson practice session during the day where couples would learn basic steps and then every night turn the disco into a big DWTS floor . You could have the ships regular dancers be the "stars"..What middle age man would not want to dance with a young beautiful female dancer and what woman would not want to dance with a man that can dance....
Someone who works on a cruise ship once told me that the ships entertainment is geared for people from middle America who would never have the opportunity to go to Las Vegas to see a show or gamble or go out night clubbing.
I guess I should start another thread that says, if you could pick a celebrity to be your dancing partner on the ship for the DWTS contest, who would it be. I, of course, would choose Vanessa Williams followed by Luanne (VBG)
in early 1986 it closed due to the prosecution of the owners ..you must have used a phony ID to get us both in because as you well remember I was much younger then you at that time (VBG)
I actually went there in the late 70's and thought it was highly overrated and too darn expensive and could not understand what all the hype was about
