Default First cruise...Nassau shore excursion ???s

We sail Thursday (5/10) on Sensation to Nassau. I gather that Pearl Island is evidently Carnival's private island????? We don't want to book any excursions, but we would like to just enjoy nature. Are there water taxis that travel to Pearl so we can wander around on our own? Also, the only thing water-related that we plan to do is the glass-bottom boat. Can we just go ashore and buy tix or do they have to be purchased in advance/on board? Also, which night is formal night on the three-day cruises? Any info would be helpful. Thanks!

When you get to Nassau and get off the ship, in the terminal building will be a slew of people hawking their various tours, cabs, excursions, etc. Use your common sense, keep track of the time and pick whatever fits your time, budget, and mood.

We are going on a 4 day on the Celebration to Nassau, I noticed you said terminal building. Do you get off the ship and come into a building In Nassua? In Mexico we got off and walked down the pier, and next time we went we were tendered in.

When you get off the ship, you either catch the little jitney to the main gate/terminal or walk off of the concrete pier and there is a long building which is the port's terminal, I guess you would call it. You can walk around it and not go in or you can cut through it to get to the other side where you will find cabs, hair braiders, horse & buggies, straw market, etc. To the right of the terminal building are the various ferries.

In the terminal are the so-called authorized excursion vendors. They usually have large cardboard signs listing what they offer. Just negotiate for what you want.

Some people do not like Nassau but IMHO, it is one of the more organized and less threatening of the caribbean ports and I have never been hassled and I cruz solo so many times I am alone. Just walk around and read the signs and compare prices.

You can take a horse and buggy ride around down town, you can take a ferry to Paradise Island, you can take a cab to Paradise Island (closer), you can sign up for any number of excursions, you can walk across the street to the straw market.

I have wandered all around the general area of the port (within 1 mile or so) and have never had a problem. A few fresh flirty men but other than that, no problem, mon!!!!

What about going over to Atlantis? Is that something worth going to see? Our day in Nassau is really only 1/2 day. Ship sails early afternoon (1 or 2, can't remember).

What's the private island? Is there one for Nassau? If there is, that could be a good excursion I would think. Anyone know the answer to this?

Thanks in advance.

Going to the Atlantis is a nice way to spend the day. You do not have access to their pools or a small area of the beach closest to the hotel but they do have the coolest aquarium and their casino is gigantic and beautiful. There are several restaurants on the property that you are free to patronize (for a price of course). After you have done the Atlantis just cut through the pool area to get to the beach. Like I said, the area closest to the hotel is suppose to be for Atlantis guests only but I have never been chased away or just walk a bit down the beach and you will get to the "public" beach (actually same beach). There are people renting chairs and umbrellas, all kinds of water sports and fun stuff, ladies braiding hair and selling shell jewelry and men walking the beach selling ice cold alcoholic beverages in coconuts and pineapples. I think the men mostly sell pina colada and rum punch.

Very nice way to spend a day. After the sun, you go back to the ship, change clothes and head back to their casino for a spell.

I recommend you take a cab b/c it will drop you off right at the driveway of the Atlantis Hotel. If you take one of the ferries, the ride is much more scenic but you have to walk a bit (less than a 1/4 mile maybe) to get to the hotel.

Enjoy.

I really appreciate all of this information. And believe it or not I was getting ready to ask questions about the beach, and how far it was from the port terminal. It doesn't seem as if it is that far away. So we may go to the aquarium and then to the beach to spend the day. After that we may go and change and get back off for a spell, as for as the children who are teenagers. I am sure they will want to stay on board and find the nearest teen club or dance!

This sounds exactly what we're looking for. We have to be back to the ship so early that taking a taxi to/from will definitely be the way to go to save some time. A kodak moment or two at Atlantis, couple of drinks on the beach and maybe a view of the aquarium and we'll be happy to call it done and go back. Thanks for the info.
