Can you send and receive text messages w/ your cell on board

Does this work? Do they charge you extra on your phone bill for it?

It would be charged at the roaming rate and overseas rate. Is it really worth it?

I think it would be less expensive to just go to an electronics store and by a couple of cheap handheld walkie-talkies. :)

As Mehawk said, you will be charged for it. I used mine last week just a few times so I know it works but I only respoded when it was the kids.

I couldn't get cell phone service while sailing so it wasn't a factor for us at all. Better if you have to check home to pay the internet charge and send an email.

Someone on here recently posted that they had a $500 cell phone bill for the text messaging. She got charged roaming and a fee for each text.

My phone is going off and stiaying off the entire cruise.

I was just thinking maybe it would be cheaper than using the computer and paying the per minute fee?? Guess not huh? Can you bring your laptop on the boat and will it connect with wirless in your room so you dont have to pay the fee per minute? Or do you have to use there computers to even connect?

You can take your own computer but you have to pay to use there internet. Not sure if you can use it in your room or not.

When we went to the Mexican Riviera last summer we to set our phone up for International. The problem was the operator, recordings, etc we all in Spanish so I had no clue how to dial. This year I'm looking into renting a phone while I'm in Europe. Has anyone ever rented/leased phones while abroad?
