Default My friend just got back and she said beer was $6.00 each?

Has anyone heard of beer being that high? I am wondering if she is correct. She went on the Carnaval cruise to Costa Mya and Cosumel and went out of New Orleans, I just went last week and priced this same criuse for next year and when I asked the TA she told me beer was around $3.50 per beer. There is a huge differance between $3.50 & $6.00 We are all having out meeting next week and I need to be able to tell everyone that is coming with us the price of beer how can I find out how much beer REALLY is? Is there a # I can call? B/c to me the way the TA answered me I wasnt sure she totall knew being she said "Around $3.50" And my friend lets just say sometimes isnt very obervant so I am not sure about her either. Any suggestions before I have my meeting I just dont want anyone to be shocked once they get on the cruise and if I tell them beer is around $3.50 and they get there and it is more than double that to me that would be a total shock!!

Thanks guys.

Danielle

We sailed 2 weeks ago and I don't think it was that much. Call a PVP at carnival and they should be able to inform you of the cost.

I didn't drink anything but Coors Light (12 oz.) on my last cruise and it was $3.75 plus 15% tip.

PVP is a personal vacation planner through carnival. Just call 1-800-carnival.

Thanks I will have to just give them a call myself. That's what I have heard here beer costing between $3.50 - $4.50 even as high as $5.00 but have never seen $6.00 so I was just wondering if I overlooked that.

My family and I went just last week on the Holiday to Cozumel and Costa Maya and the beers are HIGH! They were 4.75 plus tax and gratuity which made them around 5.43...cant remember for sure...but yes, over 5 bucks. My husband says he will take a case onboard next time. Hidden of course. (He drank Bud Light but I think they were all the same price)

you can get bud light for cheaper but if you go into any of the higher end beers then yes.. you will pay $6. Guiness is not cheap no matter what bar you go into.

O yes sorry guys I was definatly talking about Bud light. I guess it couldnt hurt to just bring a case in our checked suitcase and if they take it then they take it and if not then at least we can just go to our rooms and pour it in a glass, is that the best way? I am assuming they dont have glass bottles on the boat so we cant very well walk around with glass bottles or would a case of cans be better? I am sure to travel it would be we still couldnt walk around with cans so we could put them in cups as well right?

Wow. We were already going to bring a bottle of wine each, and a bottle of vodka. I don't want to bring a 6 pack, too!

I wonder how long it will take us to use up that $100 onboard credit?

If you take beer on board( I am not saying if this is right or wrong, just if ) just use a can, or bottle coozy. None of the crew is paying any attention to what you are drinking. They are too busy doing their other jobs. Take a collapsable cooler, and your cabin steward will keep it iced for you. At least that is what i have heard.
Gary
They have both bottles and cans of beer on board.

I am lcrusing on Carnival in another 17-days and 6.00 a beer is alot...last October when we sailed on Royal Caribbean they charged us $3.75 for a 18oz. Budweiser plus grauitity, now that's a bargin! Even if the beer is that high, I figure you "only live once, and might as well live it up while you are cruising" I know when I order beers I always ask for a bucket, which consist of 6-beers and you usually can mix-and-match different beers, I think it may even a little cheaper when you order it this way. Happy Cruising!!!

OK, I called 888 carnival today and they told me basically what I am hearing here, it is all differant prices. She said it all depends on the ship. I asked her if once I book it and know my ship and everything could I get an exact price and she told me no it varies. So she basically said that figures I have so far which is about $3.50 - $6.00 range is accurate. To me that is a huge differance and I think they should be able to tell me an exact price if I give them all my information, I mean really they know what there ships are charging dont they? O well I guess I will just have to guess and use the information everyone here has givin me, that certainly is better information than what she gave me.

Thanks guys,
Danielle

OK as I suspected my friend was WRONG as usual, lol... A PVP called me today (I called them this morning and they told me the couldnt tell me a price first of all) then a PVP called me this afternoon she got my # from me registering last night on there site but anyways she was very helpful she told me I would be on the "Fantasy" ship and she sent me a bar menu with the prices. Beers are $3.95 (where did my friend get $6.00 from I have no idea) they are $4.50 with the 15% tip added in but that still is no where near $6.00 see she had me all worried for nothing, lol... Anyway I feel much better now. I also asked her while I had her on the phone about bringing my own beer on board and she said "you can only bring wine out in the open you dont even have to pack it, but beer you arent supposed to bring it but you have to get caught." And I asked her about water and cokes and she said that you could bring that in limited amounts.

So I guess that is what I will be doing.

Thanks so much for everyones help on this.

Danielle

The were serving my husband Bud Light in the aluminum bottle. They were like 5.50 with the tip. You get a deal when you buy a bucket. There was a woman on our cruise who had purchased drink tickets online, and she and her husband were getting their beers, or cocktails for just a few cents each, like $.60 or something. I'm not sure where she got the coupons or what she paid for them. Does anybody know anything about it.

Do the buckets of beer come on ice? I mean we cant drink 4 beers at once. Do they ice them down for you so you can drink them a little at a time?

You can buy the beer tickets on carnival's website, they are four coupons for 19.00, and when you buy them like this you don't have to pay the 15% grauitity, but it's always nice to give your waiter a cash tip, if you are going to use these coupons. Happy Cruising!!!

Jessie, the 15% gratuity is included in the price of the coupons. From the Carnival site:

Quote:
Prices for Wine, Bar Credits and Soda Credits are inclusive of Gratuity and Delivery Fees. Taxes and Prices may vary depending on Port of Embarkation. Prices are subject to change without notice.
[/quote]

It's really no different from buying onboard . These are really meant as gifts for someone cruising, although many people use them to "pre-pay" their drink charges.

That was probably the difference between the face value of the coupon and the actual drink price. They are supposed to charge the difference on your S&S card but people have said some bartenders do and some don't

Ok, here's the real deal...the PVP was somewhat correct. It depends on what you order and where you order it. I was just on the Glory - disembarked on Saturday, May 5. A 16 oz. bottle of Miller Lite is 4.75, with a 15% gratuity it is $5.46 (close to $6). Corona was the same price as the Miller Lite - $5.46. You can also get a 16 oz draft (we had Budweiser) at most of the atrium bars on the ships. The draft beer was $3.75, with a 15% tip that's roughly $4.30 per pint. They do not serve draft beer at all the bars. At any of the bars you will pay slightly more for imports such as Boddingtons, Beck's, etc. In my opinion, these drinks are still cheaper than many bars in many locales - have you been to Disney, where at EPCOT's English Pavilion they charge about 7.50 per pint. That doesn't inlclude the tip.
You'll save, in general, between $1 and $2 if you get a bucket. And yes, you can take the bucket with the beers you don't drink back to your cabin to enjoy at a later time.
Also keep in mind that while you're in port (at least in American ports) prior to leaving your sail away city you will also pay taxes identified by the city in which you're departing. They do not stop charging taxes until you are a few miles out to sea. So, if you drink as soon as you get on the ship you'll be paying even more.
Carnival also has drink specials - a drink of the day, mojito mania (their mojitos were fantastic by the way!), bloody mary and mimosa specials, etc. Enjoy...in most cases when you include the tip it is still a better deal than when you go out to an upscale restaurant, theme park, etc. Heck, you're on vacation...worry about paying your expenses when you get back home
