Default single women travelling alone?

I'm considering a cruise on my own in 2008 or 2009 (doing first cruise with teenage son this summer, 4-day to Bahamas) and wanted to know how other women hav experienced cruising alone. I'm thinking of either a Western or Eastern Caribbean itinerary. What was your ship & itinerary? What singles activities did the ship have? How nice were the people who ran the events? Was there a good mix of men and women there? Were there a lot of men aged 40-55? I'm not interested in a ship that would have tons of 20-30 something singles on board.

I am a solo female cruzer.

I have done Fantasy, Fascination, Destiny, Victory, NCL PofAm and will do Liberty and Glory this year. All solo cruiser.

The least fun ship was the NCL PofAm in Hawaii. Average age of my fellow passengers had to be 70+. 'Nuff said.

As for Carnival. It has got to be one of the best way for a solo traveller to vacation. I won't go on and on but I have never not had a blast!!!!

As for single mixers, I have never attended any of those b/c I assumed (maybe wrong) that they are for singles who are looking to meet someone of the opposite (or same) sex. Since I do not get on those ships to meet Mr. Right or Mr. Right Now, the single mixers were of no interest to me.

Carnival tends to put all solo cruisers at the same dining table so right away you have friends and companions to buddy up with. I find that even people travelling with family and groups appreciate a little variety and I am not in want of company or a ship/excursion buddy. Many men do not really want to do the things that their wives look to do and they are so very glad when the Mrs. meets a "ship buddy" to hang out with and go shopping with and do excursions and see the shows with. That frees them up to go to the sports bar, eat, sleep, go to the casino, eat, sleep, sports bar without having to hear their wives nap them.

If you are looking for male companionship during your cruise, I can't advise you in that area. It is not something I go out for.

no I wouldn't be looking for one-cruise fling, but it would be nice to know there are guys to dance with in my age group who are single. I was quite the disco lady in my day.....

well, actually I usually dance with younger men - I'm 48 but I pass for 28, I have guys in their 20's always asking me to dance. But for intelligent conversation I try and find someone my own age. Of course, they are all out trying to impress the 27 year old women. - which of course means they're NOT all that intelligent after all!

For intelligent conversation, go to the library and pick up a bookworm.

For a cruise, stick to the silly, cute young bucks. Who needs intelligent conversation. The young ones are enthralled by the older women and the young girls are more than welcome to the ****** set!!!!!! :o :o Please!!!!!

Short itineraries have a younger more party atmosphere. 7 day cruises have a crowd just a bit older and anything over 8 days is decidedly older still.

Single women are on all of these cruises. Cruising has become the vacation of choice for the many many many single people in this country. Land vacations are too expensive and you may end up at a resort with nothing but couples cuddling. On a cruise ship you will not be alone.

Will you meet a man to keep innocent one-on-one company with, maybe -- maybe not.

Take a 7 day caribbean cruise and there will be other solos on the ship with you
