Default how much cash for a 4-day Bahamas cruise?

how much cash for a 4-day cruise?
When my son and go on Sensation July 29th, I plan to use credit cards for any port purchases and thought I'd only need to bring maybe 30 singles, 20 five's and 10 ten's for aiport, cruise and hotel luggage handling (2 carryons).

I won't be taking a taxi or bus anywhere. I don't drink alcohol and I won't be gambling, and I would also bring $100 as a last day extra tip for the room steward.

I guess it wouldn't hurt to have a couple of hundred dollar bills in my bra for emergencies, but I plan to bring a couple of credit cards and my atm card.

In Nassau I plan to walk around near the wharf (straw market, pirate's museum, etc.) - don't they all take credit cards? We will be eating all our meals on board.

what else besides tips could I possibly need cash for?

Take $100 a day = $400. You will bring money home but at least you will have it.

I would bring another hundred, but since you got the cards I think you should be all set.

I also bring very little cash. I keep my card and ATM card. I give someone else a card on a different account to hold.

Airport food is not cheap so don't forget about that.

Virtually all airport food vendors will take cards, so you won't necessarily need cash for them.

If I remember correctly, the Straw Market in Nassau is a cash marketplace, although I could be wrong.

Be advised, the ATM fees on ships are exorbinant - better to take cash home than pay those fees.

I don't think they take credit cards in the straw market - cash only.

and if you like to visit the casino - bring extra money.

Shipboard ATM fees are usually $5-$6 tops. On Puerto Rico I figured the fees would be comparable to stateside fees. Hah ! It was $7.50 in an ATM in a major hotel. So - beware !

When I first sailed with my son, we spent around $50 per day, per person.

Somehow I have doubled that amount to $100 per day! I have to admit when I sailed with my sisters on the all girls cruise we went over!

I'll bring $400 in small bills - some singles for baggage handlers (though we're only going to have 2 carryons and a backpack and a purse) some 5's for excursion guide tips, a $100 bill for the room steward, and the rest in ten's and twenty's. I don't expect to buy much on shore. I have never been one for overproces souvenirs. Definitely will buy a few cheap ship logo items on board, probably last day (sales happen then, I hear and that will go on the sign & sail card. I mostly live using debit or credit card, not carrying much cash.

You are leaving the room steward $100!!

Wow!! That seems like a lot. Maybe I am cheap. Let me start a new thread to see.

well, if they are really good, bring me things I need, if they are VERY friendly and helpful, then I think $75-100 would be on the high end of a tip for a 4 day cruise. If the person is just plain lousy, I wouldn't leave anything extra. I'll watch your new thread and see what experienced cruisers have left or would recommend as a tipping range.
