Hi there...

Actually.. you don't have to drink during anything on the cruise if you don't want to. Excursions are mostly non-drinking related. enjoying the pool.. the hot tub.. art auction.. bingo.. piano bar.. dancing in the disco.. etc... All non-drinking activities if you choose to make them so. You enjoy your cruise the way you want to. Thats the beauty of it.

Crystal;
I will be going on my first cruise so I cannot address your specific question but I will tell you that my husband and I do not drink either. I am looking at it like everything else in that we can have fun without the drinks. After all it is pretty funny to watch soused people make fools of themselves so I will consider that part of the entertainment (just kidding). I think that the majority of people will be responsible with their alcohol and we probably never will know they are drinking. I have been to so many functions where everyone drinks but us that I am used to it. Just have fun and do not worry.

Nice to see some other couples on here like us We are a mid 20's couple who also don't drink so I had a few reservations on my first cruise but it wasn't a problem.

Everything that goes on (dance clubs, shows, etc.) has people who are drinking and not drinking. The only time we really noticed anyone drinking was by the pool when people were carrying around their 'bucket-o-beer' or when they brought one of those delicious fufu drinks by us on a tray. Otherwise you probably won't even notice.

BTW have a couple of those fufu drinks virgin, they are amazin! Carla

I also do not drink and finding something to do has never been an issue. You will find your own fun.
Have fun!

I would imagine there are a ton of people that cruise and do not drink. Simply by the fact that they have Friends of Bill W. meetings on almost a daily basis says to me that a lot of fellow cruisers will not be drinking.

Good Subject crystal14, As someone who does drink I also can see your concern. There will be Numerous activities for you to partake in. Just realize you will have a good probability of seeing some really wasted people at some point during your cruise. Please dont let these persons ruin your cruise experiernce. Think about how much better you will feel the next morning than they will. Also they have paid up to several thousands of dollars and not remember much of what they paid for. and you will remember everything. Enjoy yourself and try not to let them bother you..

hi
I drink -my husband does not. Makes no difference in how you enjoy your cruise -individually or together-we both do our thing and have a great time.

I do not drink...and i found lots to do..

Everywhere u go..for sure u see people drinking..but nothing stopped me from having fun, there are all sorts of people on board.

I enjoyed napping on deck, the water slide, exploring the ship, the casino, the shows, the game shows, bingo, walking the track, playing cards/games in the library and everything else and yes as someone else posted PLZ do try those drinks *virginized* hehe, i had like 3 a day they are still tasty and a very cool and refreshing drink!

Go and have fun, there are lots of things to do on board, its not a big ole drinking contest hehe

David.

Oh Crystal,
For sure you can have fun even thought you don't drink...lots to do. I don't drink much either and still have a ball. Just go through the daily news letter they leave in your cabin each evening and pick out things you want to do the next day.

Have fun!

My DW and I don't drink either and have never cruised before and I was really worried about "standing out from the crowd" by not drinking. I am so happy to see that there are more people like us. I had thought about ordering the virgin drinks but thought the bartender might make fun of us for asking for something like that. Thanks for everyone's responses. I feel much better about our new year's eve cruise now!

Coming from a *drinker* here...You should never let the burden of alcohol decide if you will have fun or not. On my last cruise I didn't drink as much as my friends..and guess what...I was the one who was up bright and early getting my breakfast and enojying the boat without all the heads in the way. Sometimes it is better not to drink or at least to limit yourself, you do want to remember your vacation and all!!!
Have a great cruise!!!

"After all it is pretty funny to watch soused people make fools of themselves so I will consider that part of the entertainment (just kidding). "

I agree with this statement above - I rarely drink, and I certainly will not when I'm on this cruise with my 14 year old son. I may have a glass of red wine (healthy!) occasionally when out to dinner, but that's the exception rather than the rule. Perhaps once every month or two. People who drink really don't realize how stupid they look and act. Same with smokers. I know, that's another whole thread.

michellet1959;
So if I have a drink I look stupid? So do I look smart if I am not drinking?
I just think evreyone is trying to lump all who have a drink as bad. The non-drinkers must be good then. I think that is pretty general, and not very fair to those who have a drink on ocassion.

That is a very narrow-minded and offensive statement. I am sure you do things that other people do not do. However, it doesn't make you stupid or look stupid. It makes you -- you.

I nap on the deck too.....oh wait that is after drinking..... never mind.

Seriously , don't let alcohol be a deciding factor with regard to a cruise. Just be yourself and have fun. I drink and have fun and I also have fun when i don't drink.

I feel the cruise environment (especially on the 5 day and longer cruises) is appropriate enough to bring my kids along.

I really think that perhaps with a few exceptions, you will not notice people over indulging. At least not before noon on the second day!

No one flamed anyone here. Just our opinion on people being called stupid for doing something different than what the OP thinks is right. We are all entitled to our opinions on this board. I still don't feel it is proper to lump people into any group. I mean drinkers , or non-drinkers. I don't think people that don't drink are stupid. I just think they are non-drinkers. If I meet them and then they prove to me that they are stupid then that is a different story. They are not stupid because they don't drink.
There is no WINNER in this thread, there is no LOSER either. There are just a lot of opinions. I have just expressed mine.

I didn't mean to offend anyone, it's just my opinion. Just as I'm sure everyone else's opinions posted on these boards aren't meant to offend anyone.

If you'd ever lost someone to a drunk driver or lung cancer, you'd possibly understand. I just think it's sad that people can't have a good time without alcohol in their system. The alcohol companies really have people hooked on it, just like those still smoking. They are laughing all the way to the bank as people continue to drink and smoke.

It's something peoplke mostly do in their younger days and either grow out of it or stay stuck in it, thinking "it's okay" to drink and smoke. To many people, it's so uncool, just like "getting tan," another dangerous thing.

Not everyone who drinks is a drunken driver.

Driving drunk is not only dangerous it is illegal.

Drinking alcohol, while it may not be for everyone, is NOT illegal for anyone over 21 (in most if not all of the US).

It is okay to have and voice opinions. That is what forums are for. But please do not make the jump that all people who drink turn out to be drunk drivers.

I knew that you did mean to hurt anyone before. I lost my dad a few months ago to lung cancer due to smoking. So yes when you said that I knew exactly how you felt even if it didn't come out the way it was ment to Carla

My DW and I don't drink either and we always manage to have loads of fun. There will be plenty to do on board and on land. I do however enjoy a virgin Mango- Tango from time to time. 8)
