Default Packing question

What is the one item that you did not pack that you wished you had? First cruise and I want to get it right. Thanks

In addition to the one thing, what else does everyone pack. First time cruiser for us also and I am so confused about what to bring. I thought I saw a list here somewhere, but cannot find it

Thanks

This is a list I've compiled based mostly on suggestions from this board and partly from my past cruise experience:

(in no particular order)
over the door shoe bag (or similar) to organize small items in cabin...not a lot of desktop space
battery operated fan (for the noise)
small power strip (for battery charges, etc. - only one outlet in main cabin area plus the one in the bathroom)
ziplock bags of various sizes
highlighters (to highlight capers)
air freshener (if you want to ENSURE your cabin smells good; it probably will anyway but you don't know for sure till its too late to go buy air fresh)
sunglasses
hats/visors
stain stick, etc.
night light (unless darkness in cabin is preferred)
underwater camera
lanyards for S&S Card, fountain card, etc. (they are avail on ship too for a fee)
lysol wipes
batteries and rechargers
earplugs (in case the shows are loud for you)
laundry sundries (if you plan to do any laundry)
travel wallet (like one that hangs around the neck)
clothespins (for wet line and to weigh down shower curtain)
post-it-notes (leave notes for family members and cabin steward on mirror, etc.)
mug with lid for drinks on "deck days"
medical insurance card (I.C.E.)
compact umbrella for port days (if travelling to carib. etc.)
old credit card for safe

All just possibilities...wouldn't apply to everyone.

Thank you!!!!

you left out the clothing part...........
Guess I should have specified, but that's where I am having the trouble. I know I have been reading not to overpack

We are going on a 8 day, so what do I bring?

for clothing, it's recommended to bring things that you can mix and match so you can bring less. For example, I'm going with my son on a 4-day cruise to the Bahamas on July 29th and with a hotel night before and after that means 6 days of clothing. I'm bringing 3 pairs of shorts and 4 tank tops to mix and match for the days, and 2 pairs of nice capri pants and 2 nice camisole tops to mix and match for the nights. I can do laundry in the sink and let things hang overnight. Nothing dressy on this trip! I'll be wearing sneakers and bringing nice white flat sandals for evenings and flop flops for hanging around on sea day. We are only travelling (flying from Chicago) with 2 carry on bags and my purse. No matter how dressy you get, just pick 1-2 color themes and bring things that will match up with each other. Nothing wrong with wearing the same thing twice or even 3 times on a cruise. Who cares and who cares IF someone else cares? Not me!

Well I always over pack on shirts. THe reality is that I buy a lot of shirts in the ports & wind up wearing them over what I initially packed.

Pack an Extension Cord - usually not too many outlets in the cabin.

I always have and always will overpack underwear - I'm not taking any chances on running out of those and they don't take up much room.

Forgot to pack a sun visor so I ended up buying one.... I don't like burning my nose.
