Default Anyone going on the Sensation on August 5th and a some ???'s

Hey all,

well, my family and I have been on a carnival cruise before, the inspiration a few years back and it truelly was one of our best holidays in a long while, great fun and beautiful decor i must say, and so we have decided to go on the sensation this time round to check out the bahamas(ya man, cool runnings, he he)

I'm 24, male and goig along with older bro an sis, younger sis and mum an dad with all of us looking forward to it greatly.

We shall be in the states for 3 weeks in total and without a doubt the cruise shall be a highlight and i can't wait.

the last time we went, i was 20 so i could not buy a drink(where there is a will there is a way) which was rather frustrating cos over here in England the legal age is 18 as all of you know im sure, but the casino was fun fun fun and im feeling lucky this time round too, the food was fantastci on the inspiration ad can't wait to see what the sensation has to offer in all departments ;-)

Anyway, on to my few questions:

Is anyone going on the stated date i mentioned?

Has anyone been on this cruise before?

Ive noticed you can get your fun pass online, sorry but not quite sure what this is, will it save us time lining up to get on the ship if we do it beforehand online?

Basically, can't wait till the time comes for us to embark on our voyage once more and thought id check out cruisemates to see if there is any likeminded peeps like myself.

Thanks for reading and hope to hear from some of you sooner rather then later,

Take care,

Andrew

Sensation's a great ship, it'll be identical to Inspiration, just decorated differently and a few years older. You won't be able to tell by it's appearance, all of Carnival's ships are maintained to the same standard regardless of age. Plan some kind of excursion or trip in Freeport cause there's nothing near the pier. Most take a taxi to Port Lucaya where there's a market, beach and casino. Nassau is definitely the better of the two stops. The digs at Atlantis is a very popular spot there or you may be interested in the historical tour which takes you to a couple old English forts, cricket field, and the Queen's Staircase. Both stops rich in limey culture. YES, complete the online Funpass and it should expedite boarding at Port Canaveral, which incidental has great facilities. I did this same itinerary when Fantasy was sailing this route. Enjoy your stay in the states and have a great cruise.

Hi Andrew!

My son, my sister and her family, and I will be on the same cruise! We are really looking forward to it. We were on Fascination last year so, we are expecting it to be essentially the same. We had a blast last time!

I'll be anxious to see if anyone else will be on the same cruise. Since I am "40-something" and my son is only 14, we probably aren't likeminded peeps! .

I hope you have a wonderful visit to the States. I am sure we both will have a great cruise! Maybe our paths will cross on-board!

Have Fun!

Sara (OzzyMom)

I sailed on the Inspiration last April and loved her. I just got off the Sensation. The difference between a 4 day and a 5 day is very evident. The Sensation seems much older. The atrium at night on both ships is very cool! The 5 day is the better cruise but the 4 day Bahamas is a better itinerary. You will enjoy the Sensation, but you will notice that the Inspiration is nicer. I immediately smelled the musty cigarette smell when i boarded the Sensation. Not so on the Inspiration. That ship is in great ship for her age and is highly recommended!!

Thank you all kindly for your replies thus far ;-)

Port Lucaya huh? thanks for that, i will have to check it out as a bit of beach fun sounds like a plan, i remem goingt o the Cayman Islands when i went on the inspiration and there was a 7 mile beach all to ourselves, was a beautiful sight i must say, doh to me though as i dropped a bear id just bought at the beach bar an it had cost £7, shocking, although i did still buy another one(pointless story but hey)

As for your limey cultered comment, tut tut and here i was thinking we are allies ;-) just for that comment i shall say Tony Parker is a legend, 4-0 in your cup final was it, unlucky Cleveland!

I truelly hope you and your family have a splendid time on the sensation miss Ozzymum, If our paths met it would be cool inded, i shall keep a hear out for the name Sara ;-)

Thanks for the info there JPmaximus, luckily im a smoker so i will not be too stressed about it smelling of a little smoke, although is there plenty of places to smoke on board? i remem on the inspiration there was a bar i could smoke in along with the casino of course, blackjack all the way baby! Did u have a good time on the sensation then?

Back on to the subject of the funday pass online thingy, does it really save alot of time if we do it before heading out to the states? I do remember last time when we was lining up for the inspiration that it did take quite along time so any time saved is always a good thing, any info on this i would truelly appreciate!

Also, im guessing no but can you buy ciggaretes on board in the gift shop? If not then are they cheap in either freeport of Nausau?

Thanks in advance ;-)

Andrew

The 5 day is the better cruise but the 4 day Bahamas is a better itinerary.

HUH? I guess we all have different opinions, but you'll be hard pressed gettin anyone to agree Freeport/Nassau beats Grand Cayman/Cozumel.

Nope, I don't do wars anymore, so I got no need for allies. And the championship was a wedding present from Lebron to Tony.

Your first reply i shall say been there done that got the t-shirt ;-) Was great day, cozumel was a blast i must say!

i've never done wars(unless its on the computer back in my hay day) so i hear what ya saying ;-) Tony's lady is hardly stunning though is she(yeah right) lucky so an so. On the note of Lebron though, did you see his youtube video where he took throws from the centre an then working his way back to his byline an sinking each throw as though it were a standard drill, it was quality i must say!

An answer regarding the online funpass application would be appreciated Mr Cleveland or anyone reading this.

Mucho Gracias!

Actually I answered that in my first post, but here it is again.

YES, complete the online Funpass and it should expedite boarding at Port Canaveral, which incidental has great facilities.

No offense meant by the "limey" remark. The Bahamas was an English possession for so many years it shows in their culture. And yeah, BTDT with the wars. They lied bout the Gulf of Tonkin, the BS bout WMDs was deja vu for me.

Yeah thanks, i noticed you'd answered my question about the online funpass but it was bit brief sir, i was hoping to hear why it speeds up the embarkation process, is there a different and shorter line for those who have completed the online funpass application or something?

I know, England used to rule quite a few countries, those were the days, he he! no offence taken just thought you was having a dig which is fair enough, im big enough to take a bit of banter ;-)

As for the WMD rubbish, yeah i knew they would find nothing also but lets not get started on politics cos we shall be here all day talking about the cons of going to war in the first place, the better they send our troops home the better i feel!

Hi Andrew,

I'll be on the Sensation right before you and Sara sail (July 29th). I'm also 0-something with a 14 year old son. Sara, it's too bad we aren't on the same sail date!!! We could hang out nearby while our sons do some male bonding!

From what I've heard from those who cruised the Sensation, we'll ALL have a blast and it's highly recommended for first time cruisers.

I will have a very detailed review upon my return home - late faternoon on Fridy the 3rd.

Michelle

1) Yes , we did the 4 day Sensation cruise twice this year.
Loved them both....

2) You still have to line up once inside the terminal to get your room keycard and your sign and sail cards.
The Funpass you fill out in advance just helps speed things up at the counter by skipping many steps you took care of by filling out the Fun Pass.

Also make sure you have your Bahamas Immigration form filled out (it'll be included with your documents with your luggage tags) or if you don't get them, grab some from the counters there and fill them out as you wait in line for your cards.

We arrived at the terminal at Port Canaveral at around 10AM and both times were allowed on the ship between 11AM-11:30 at the latest.
Couldn't get to the rooms until 1:30 (corridors blocked by fire doors until then) but it is great scouting the layout of the ship with very few people on board and those who are heading straight for the buffet.

Also a great spot if you enjoy a smoke, is the Polo Lounge near the rear of the Promenade deck. It is the Cigar/Sports bar.
My wife and I spent most of our inside time in there. (me with my cigars and her with her smokes)
They play ESPN Desportes and soccer on the 4 plasma TVs on the wall, almost 24 hours day.
Got to learn alot about the sport and various rivalries from the crew, who constantly stop in to check the scores and have a quick smoke.

In Freeport, the dock area is an industrial area with absolutely nothing to look at if you decide to stay on the ship. (we did that on our first trip to enjoy the less crowded pools and ship)

2nd trip we took a cab from pier to Our Lucaya (I believe it was $5 per person each way)
The cabbie dropped us off by the Casino.
1)You could walk right across the street to the Our Lucaya marketplace with straw markets on either end of the facilitiy, with a bunch of shops and restaurants set up like a little village between them. (easy to catch a cab back to the ship from either of the facility when you are done)
2) The Casino is right there for those you might want to gamble for a time.
3) There is a path between the Casino and the hotel next door that runs back to the pool area and then the beach.

None of the three hotels here offers a daypass to use their pool facilites like the hotels in Nassau do.

But if you head down to the beach, they do have chairs to rent for the day ($10 I think it was) and the powdery white sand beach is gorgeous.

That night when you return to the Sensation will be the Formal Dinner night with the Lobster and Prime Rib.
About 50 photo stations will be set up between your cabin and the dining room.

The next morning you arrive in Nassau around 7AM (give or take a half hour either way)
We always get off the ship and do a walking tour to the tourist sites first thing, while it is still cooler in the morning.
Check out this link for pictures and details.
http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=332656

In the middle of the walking tour, we stop at the Graycliff Hotel/Restaurant and I pick up some cigars at their cigar factory there.

http://www.graycliff.com/index.php?o...=page&SubMenu=

The walking tour ends back at the pier area in front of the British Colonial Hilton.
We walk right up to the desk there and take advantage of their $15 daypass to use their pool and beach facilities. (restaurant/bar and restrooms just steps away from the pool.)
It is an extremely quiet business type pool with no kids running amok and no bands playing poolside, no jetskis roaring in the surf.

If you want to relax and enjoy a small beach with a nice pool steps away, we love this hotel. (plus it is ridiculously close to the ship, for an easy walk back after a few hours of sun and swimming.)

If you prefer some more action water sports, poolside music, etc... you can catch the #10 Jitney(bus) to nearby Cable Beach for $1 per person.
The hotels there, now, also offer $15 daypasses, for the use of their larger pools and much larger beach. Which does have water sports available there if you enjoy them.

If you want to party all day, you do have the option of Breezes All Inclusive daypass for $60 per person. (there is a $5 off coupon you can get in the Welcome Center you pass through as you leave the ship.)
I think we were told it was good from 9AM-6PM.
It is located at Cable beach, so again, you can catch the #10 Jitney each way for $1.
Some friends from the ship we saw later that night, enjoyed the all you can eat and rink there all day, the various congas, etc... that broke out and using the various toys there. (trapeze on the beach, water toys. although they said the motorized toys were extra I believe.)

If anyone wants to do some shopping they need to remember that basically EVERYTHING closes down between 5PM and 6PM.
Senor Frogs bar at the end of the pier stays open and is a great place for a quick drink and party atmosphere.

Atlantis over on Paradise Island stays open.

There you of course have their montrous casino.

If you go over later in the evening, you can tour the Digs Aquarium down in the lobby, for free (instead of the $29 per person they charge during the day) after the guards go home for the day. (which was at 6PM in January for us, but apparently 7ish or later in the summer months)

They also have an extremely upscale Galleria (mall) that stays open later than the stores back in Nassau. (I think they were still open around 10ish when we were leaving)

If you walk outside the hotel, they have another shopping area on a boardwalk area out by the boat docks in the back.

Hope that gives you a few ideas for things to do in Nassau.

We love the 24 hours in Nassau, each time we cruise the Sensation.
Never at a loss for things to do and we never have to book an excursion.

Bill

Firstly, Michelle i hope you have a lovely cruise and that you thoroughly enjoy yourself along with ya lil man ;-)

A big big big thank you to bguppies, some great info you gave me there and very good insight ;-)

I shall have to do a bit more research now through the strentgh of what you say there is to do. I think my mum would prob like to go on a walk whereas i would like to check out the market for a bit before heading to the beach, is there alot to choose from which are not so close to the big cruise ships?

I think me and my bro shall be heading down to the bar on the shore into the early hours of the morning as it looks like a laugh and some activity will be a plenty no doubt!

Thanks for the links also, some great pictures i must say and makes me want to be out there already, as for the cigar link, not really quite my thing to be honest but thanks all the same, is there a shop which sells ciggies in cartons do ya know by any chance seeing as ya wife is a smoker? the sports bar sounds just up my street aswel as my bro's and fathers, the English charity shield soccer game will be being played the day we set sail, was it english soccer or MLS soccer do you know that they showed on the 4 plasmas? Its a great sport i assure you although whilst in orlando i am lookin to drag me dad and bro out to a tampa bay devil rays baseball game as ive never been to a game but am a keen follower of the sport(im a yankees fan) hence me even having a fantasy team ;-)

Thanks for the info on the funpass, i shall indeed be sure to complete the online application instead as it does sound like it will save us doing it whilst we are there, if my understanding is correct, by doing the funpass online it will speed up the process of getting onto the ship and also it will save us form writing more once inside whilst obtaining our sign and sail card?

I treully do appreciate all the info you have informed me of sir ;-)

Yourself and your wife must have loved it considering you have been twice already this year and its only June, i hope to have just as a memorable cruise as your good self.

kind regards,

Andrew

We are taking the Grand Bahama Coastal Cruise and Shopping Tour.

It takes us to the Port Lacaya Marketplace. Is this the same place? Are there any places to change into swimsuits there?

I assume if you rent a chair for $10 you can go swimming.

Thanks,

Brian

In Freeport, we plan to do the glass bottom boat ride which is in the morning and returns us to the Sensation in time for lunch. , but is there a beach you can take a quick cab ride to from the port? I would rather do something like that rather than stay on the ship all afternoon.

Is there a beach you can walk to (5-10 minutes) near the Freport dock (which I understand is an instrustial dock with no shops, etc. near it).

Thanks!

There is nothing but industrial wastelands and huge oil tankers within a 15 minutes drive of the where the ship docks.
Definitely nothing you could walk to. (Other than the tiny, makeshift straw market right by the ship. (but they charged twice as much than at the straw market at Our Lucaya)

I think there are some less developed beaches PAST Our Lucaya on the far side of the island, but I believe the beaches at Our Lucaya is the closest beach. (like a 20 minute cab ride)

Andrew
1)The Cable Beach hotels and resorts are 20-30 minutes away from the pier. Everything on the walking tour is only 4 or 5 blocks from the pier at the most.

2) If your wife smokes a pretty common brand, the prices on the ship are really great.

3)ESPN Desportes played everything BUT wussy MLS American soccer........
I never knew beach soccer existed until that cruise. (needless to say, the Brazilians kick butt in beach soccer)

It must have been some major European soccer leagues, because quite a few passengers actually had their team jerseys on while watching the games. (We were all pulling for some poor old guy rooting for an Irish team versus Manchester United, who I had heard of.)
