Hello, Can anyone tell me how the casino works?
Do we need cash? or will they add it to our charge card? or what?
Thanks...

yes they will take cash. They will also take your sail and sign card which acts like a charge card on the ship. They also take charge cards at the teller.

Those blood sucking, money grabbing vultures will take anything you offer that has an iota of value to it. . . . oh, excuse me. I get carried away.

In truth, you can use your sail and sign, cash, atm, credit card, first born, will codicil, etc. and they will convert it to chips or slot credit.

You can use your sign and sail card, but i would recommend using cash. They add an extra charge for using the sign and sail card, 3% if i remember correctly. hope this helps.

You won't have any problem with how you want to spend your money in the casino. Just remember, if you leave in your underwear you stayed too long.

Yes, I find that to be true with most casinos.... I mostly play pennies & nickles slots, I just love the game... it's nice to win once in a while but mostly I'm in it for the enjoyment.
By the way, I stopped playing quarter machines when we hit a $750 on a nickle machine.
Thanks for the heads up though, much appreciatated.

also Carnival is finally giving a perk if you play the slots: put your sail n sign card in the slot machine (it will count as points for slot pay) and you get something like $10.00 for 1000 points played (basically is like for every $100 you get 10.00).

Default Penny & Nickel slots?

Are there many of these?

I don't remember seeing them in NJ casinos. Usually .25 on up!

I'm surprised that these are on the ship's casinos since they aren't as "profitable" as having guests start with the larger amounts.

One night on my last cruise, I sat at the penny slot and was determined to win the progressive jackpot of $25,000. Well, I finally gave up at around 2 am. By then I had lost $200!!!!!!

If you max out on the penny slots, you can spend $.90 to $1.80 each time you press that little button. In fact, truth be told, generally the penny, nickel and $.02 slots are more expensive to play b/c it take so many more coins to max them out.

You can use your sail and sign card in the casino to get cash back on your playings. It is about $10 for every 1,000 points.

Also, I don't like to carry around a lot of change when I cash out of a slot machine. You can upload your own cash to your Sail and Sign card. This makes it a lot easier to move from machine to machine. There is no charge to use your Sail and Sign card for this service. You just have to remember to cash out your balance on the last night of the cruise. The casino hosts are very good about coming around and reminding you to do that before midnight on the last evening.

yes, they will take your cash, sign and sail, or credit. trust me they will gladly accept every penny, nickel, dime, quarter, dollar etc you want to give them. you can put your sign and sail card in the slots to earn $10 for every 1000 points you earn. i lost more than i planned on and only earned about 150 points so unless you are going to spend a lot of time and money in the casino, not sure it's worth the trouble cuz sometimes you forget to pull your card out then when you remember you have to go back looking for it. that's scary

dawson21,

A good way to help you remember that your Sail and Sign card is in the machine is to have the casino host attach a lanyard (stretchy cord) to it.
I have seen some people wear it around their neck or arm while they are playing. This helps them remember to pull it out of the machine when they get ready to leave.

Again, I would only advise using the Sail and Sign as your personal bank to transfer your own funds from one machine to another. For this service there is no charge to your Sail and Sign card. It works the same way as the Ticket In Ticket Out (TITO) system that is now in place in many land-based casinos. I would never pay the 3 percent to have cash from a credit card applied my Sail and Sign card.

In any casino there are going to be hot and cold machines. It's best to move off the cold machines as quickly as possible. Money management is the key to survival in any casino. Another thing to remember is just plan for gambling as part of your entertainment--just like shore excursions, shopping, bar tab, etc. I have never gone into a casino (land-based or ocean) thinking I'm going to leave a big winner. I just go to have fun. It's part of my vacation entertainment.

Good Luck,

Sherrie

I used my sail and sign card on my last cruise and the added service fee of 3% was but a few dollars. ($20 cost $.60, $50 cost 1.50) It was more than worth it for the freedom of not having to walk around with cash and/or have to get up from a hot machine or table to get more cash. I didn't know until the last night that I could download my winning back onto my sail and sign so I would cash out each evening. As I accumulated winnings, I would go down to the purser's desk and pay down on my sail and sign account. By the end of my cruise, with drinks, bingo, gambling, pictures, etc. I had a total of $105 charged to my credit card . I won bingo one day, had a very good OBC and used my casino winnings. My charges totaled $1,396 (of which maybe $3-$5 went for the casino service fee). All but $105 was paid off before I left the ship.

If you are pulling a couple of hundred dollars at a time, then the service fee may be enough to turn you off but if you are like most people, you will only pull $20-$50 at a time. For $1.50, you know you won't have to worry about losing cash somewhere on the ship. This only applies if you can control your gambling.

Hi Cruise Mate,
Casinos are cash or you can use your card. If you use your sign & Sail card it then deducts from your deposit or charges the credit card on file. I stick to cash usually because the other is too easy. The casino is only open when you are at sea. I can't wait till september... oooya.

Oh they have bingo on the ship too :-)

Am I understaning this correct?
You can just put your card in the machine & it will dedcut the amount & you can cash out on the card also?
That is a scary thought.
I was on Rhapsody last month, you could get cash on your card from the cashier but not by putting your card in the machines.

And don't forget - every casino has an ever present ATM. Prpbably charge you at least $5 for a transaction.
