Default Driving to Galveston crossing on ferry to Conquest ship

We will be driving from the East Texas area to Galveston and crossing on the ferry on Sunday morning. What is the traffic like going to the ship on Sunday morning? How much extra time should we allow ourselves?

Default Ferry @ Galveston

I am from LA & we sailed from Galveston last year & went across the ferry. Our cruise departed on a Thursday, we waited in the "ferry line" about 20-25 minutes & the ride is about the same....it really depends on the line of traffic since only a certain amount of vehicles can be loaded at a time, including 18-wheelers....they did have a separate line for people from TX, I'm unsure if they rec'd special boarding or not...hope this helps some.

We went to the ferry a couple of weeks ago, because I had just learned about it. This was about 5:00 on a Saturday, and the lines were very long. There was no ships in port that day. I would allow plenty of time.

On a Sunday morning, there should not be much traffic crossing to Galveston from Pt. Bolivar -- most of the people will be going to Bolivar for a day of fun in the sun! I would allow approximately 45 min. for the wait and the crossing. It is a very pleasant ride and you will be able to see the ship waiting for you at the pier in Galveston!

As soon as you cross the causeway, take the first exit (Harborside Dr.) and turn left. You caaaaaan't miss it! For an Sunday afternoon trip, take a ride to Galveston and have a meal at Fisherman's Wharf and watch the Conquest set sail! It will definitely whet your appetite.
