Default Luggage Tags

Our vacation is drawing near.... just over a month to go.

Quick question - we opted for the electronic documents. I am just wondering what others have done to secure their tags I had thought about laminating them to make them more durable, but I wasn't sure how to then attach them to the luggage handle.

What have others done? I don't want to attach them until we get to the port and I didn't know if we should punch a hole and then use a rubber band or twist tie. I wasn't planning on bringing a stapler or tape.

Your suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I have heard others who printed them out on heavy paper, and then used heavy duty clear tape to make them even stronger. As to how to attach, no one has said so far, but we noticed tags in the terminal on the floor, where it looked like someone had lost theirs.

Wish I could help more. Just not enough people doing it yet.

Good Luck

When you get to the terminal, the porters will have the regular tags for you. Just use those. I would not use the ones that print with the edocuments. On my cruise on the Liberty, there was some confusion re: my cabin number and another passenger so my luggage was a little slower getting to me than I would have liked. I was told and directed to a small mountain of luggage that was stacked near the purser's desk on the first night. All this luggage had lost their tags between the time the passenger gave it to the porter and when it arrived on the ship There had to be 100 pieces of luggage at least.

However, in all fairness, when I went down to the purser's office early the next morning, all but a few (less than 10) pieces had been claimed.

Have them ready laminate or use the tape , then punch a hole and thread a piece of yarn or ribbon to tie it on your luggage.

Default zip ties

I would suggest zip ties to attach them after laminating them. They are super strong and you can cut them off with a nail clipper or small scissors. I also read on one of these boards they are great for “locking your suitcases.

I would do this also. If you have extras you could laminate/punch hole/zip tie an extra one to each piece.

We elected to get the regular docs package instead of the electronic. JUst can't let go of the traditional looking stuff.

Phil, Do you know if we will always have a choice on what type of doc's we get? I hope so.

I also saw people duct taping their tags to their bags. I am sure if attaching them doesn't work, they will improve them.

I bought some Scotch Self-Sealing Laminating Pouches for items up to 8.5 x 11. This worked well

I got five sheets for less then $5.00 at Kmart.

Does the color matter? I noticed that my ink color ink was running a little low towards the end.

The ones I got electronic are pinkish. The ones I got with the paper docs were blue. The cabins are right next door to each other.

Thanks,

Brian

Brian,

I am trying to think!! Ours were both blue. I don't know if they are going to stick with the color thing or not.

Luanne,
I do not know if we will always have that choice. I should think so since it would be unreasonable for the lines to think that everyone has net access and can print them. I prefer the old fashioned way.

Brian,
I often wondered if part of the efficiency of the porters getting bags around has to do with color. Do they look solely at color and grab n go or do they actually look closely at each tag and read the deck/cabin info.

My printer has been doing the same as yours. I know it means its time to change the cartridges but they are so darn expensive!

The reason why I asked was because I have two cabins booked for the 4 of us. I did one cabin with electronic documents and one with mailed documents. The cabins are right next to each other.

The electronic tags are pink and have a bar code, reservation number, "port" and "aft" printed on them. The mailed tags are blue with no info on them at all. (Not sure about aft since I don't have them in front of me).

This makes me think the color doesn't matter much.

I forgot to mention that I like the printed tags much better now that I have them lamented.

Once you fold them, the do become stronger, but I covered them in the clear packing tape (the kind used to seal boxes for shipping) and it makes them very durable and waterproof.

Just be sure to put your name on the tags BEFORE you cover them.

We used some inexpensive photo paper - seems to be tough enough.

The tags are helpful in getting your bags to the proper cabin. I think the color is to help you find your bags at the end of the cruise. When we returned to port, our bags were lined up by color. But the best thing that helped me find our bags easily was the dog chew toys that I attached to each bag. When we went to pick up our bags, they were together. The porter saw three of them and said, "Didn't you have a cooler, too?" He had remembered our bags from when we boarded just because of the dog chews! It really helps to have something unique attached to your bags so that if there is a mix-up, you can spot yours easily.

The photo paper idea is good! That way you don't have to worry about laminating, necessarily.

When you drop your luggage off at the port the tags will be right there. Take the time to fill them out. The porters are use to looking for something they are familiar with.
As for the colors, we usually got new tags for getting off the ship, I think. That's where the colors come in....for the different times to disembark.
I know you will have this all figured out and will do fine.
