Default 12 Day Europe from Civitavecchia on the Carnival Splendor

My wife and I just finished our 6th Cruise (7 Day Mexican Riveria/Carnival Pirde) two weeks ago. To ease our post cruise depression, we are now looking to book our next cruise. We are conisdering the above cruise (see topic). Our ports of call will be in Italy (Naples & Livorno), Turkey (Marmaris, Izmir, Istanbul) and Greece (Athens & Katakolon). The itinerary is available on the Carnival Splendor on October 5th and 17 of 2008.

Does anyone have any info, advice, or tips for any of these ports of call?

Have a look over at the John Heald blog. The Freedom is on a Med cruise now hitting some of those ports. John has lots of info in his blog.

Default Thanks!

Thanks Phil & Liz, I will do just that! We did a trans Atlantic cruise ("Rome to Home") last November and John was the CD on the Liberty. Funny guy.

I'm not sure of sailing dates....but....this one would be better in the month of September. October is kind of iffy.

Enjoy

Default Carnival Med Cruise

We did the Freedom to Greece and Turkey last March. It was amazing. Our one hint... be careful disembarking at the end of the cruise in Italy. We had planned to take a tour into Rome on disembarkation day but it was cancelled, so we decided to take a taxi whch we were told would cost about 150 euros for the cab. (To buy a transfer on board would cost 75 euros per person but drop us quite a distance from our hotel) When we got off the ship, the taxis told us it would cost 150 euros per person. So, being cheap, we decided to take the train which would leave us near our hotel. We got to the train ok, but, while on the train a pickpocket managed to get our camera, with all our pix. In retrospect, it would have been best to take the Carnival transfer, or even the taxi. Also, if you use a digital camera, unless you have some way of backing up or storing your pictures separate from your camera, we recommend buying several memory cards so all your pix aren't in one place. Have a great cruise... we're sure you'll love it!
