Default Anyone ever had this problem?

Its really quite a nightmare... we were supposed to be going on the Glory on 8/25/07. My friend (who I am travelling with) said her friend's mother was a travel agent and could book our cruise for us. I thought, why not?

Well here is why not... the travel agent BOOKED US ON THE WRONG CRUISE!!! She picked the 9/22/07 sail date instead! We didn't realize her mistake until we just finished paying our final installment and tried to book excursions. The mom/TA told my friend this was the date my friend told her to book, however, 9/22/07 was never brought up, my friend swears. When I called the mom/TA she says that she changed the date to get us the military discount! (which is crazy b/c if so, she never conveyed this information to us). We called Carnival, they said if the TA were to call and speak to a manager, then perhaps something could be done (I assume her having to eat whatever the penalty). They would not accept the phone call from us. So I asked the TA to call, its unclear if she ever talked to a supervisor (b/c she wont just say) and she said that we would have to forfeit our $500 deposits and pay the higher price for the cruise. When we booked the balconies were going for $879. They are now $1279.

The TA is an "independent contractor" per the email she sent me, so I assume that any mistake she made would not be covered by the agency she is operating out of and she would have to cover the penalties. She refuses to admit she could have made a mistake and is being absolutely NO HELP on this. She made one lousy call to Carnival and got no useful information, other than our $500 would be lost and we'd have to pay full price for the current balcony cabin.

Has anyone else ever had this happen w/ an unhelpful travel agent and been able to get Carnival to help you out? This is a sticky situation b/c my friend doesnt want to be too forceful about it b/c the TA is her good friend's mother.

Go to the CLIA website and check this person out and if possible report her.

sorry for your problem, but it's time to make it someone else's problem.
as posted, report her after YOU call carnival if she won't. carnival sometimes does help and bend, especially if there is a room available. if the call to carnival does not help, prepare your paperwork that you can email to carnival, show it to the t/a and inform her of the email and your intent to report her. good luck

Who cares if the TA is her good friend's mom. Too bad, oh so sad for the good friend.

Call Carnival and see if there is anything they can do for you directly. Report the TA to whatever organization keeps track of them. And finally, from now on, book directly with Carnival, either online or over the phone. There is no reason to have a TA when booking a straight forward Carnival cruise. For the one or two so-called "perks" that a TA will offer to get your business, it is not worth the potential headache of having to deal with a middleman.

Someone messed up big time and I am sure the TA does not want to eat the couple of thousands of dollars that you guys stand to be out.

Unfortunately, it is also partly the passengers' fault because someone should have verified the reservation. Once you make a Carnival reservation, you get a Carnival booking number. With that number, you would have been able to go to the Carnival website and look up your reservation yourself. Why was that not done? Didn't you get a confirmation from Carnival? It should have had a book number.

Hope it works out for you. Hard lesson to learn

There is paperwork that shows you your cruise information. I always give this to the client and keep the TA's copy in a file. I'm sorry this happened to you. I even have clients that book thier next cruise while cruising and then Carnival turns it over to me. No extra cost. I hope all works out for you I so enjoyed the Glory in May.

I am currently booked on the Glory on 9/22. If you decide to go that week let me know! It would be great to meet up! =)

But joking aside, this cruise has been a nightmare to book. The friend I am traveling w/ won thru her job a travel voucher for being the top salesperson in her group. Her company required that she go thru a specific TA. She has been slack in her communication. We tried to book with her months ago and she would never respond to us, all while the price kept going up. We finally got it booked and then had numerous issues with the reservation which seem to be worked out. When I wanted to pay the remaining balance b/t the voucher and the cost of the cruise it took over a MONTH for the payment to be submitted.

In the future I will be booking directly with Carnival again. My cruise was booked thru them last year and it was the most seamless and easy process. Plus the person I delt with was great.

Anyway, I hope you are able to get this stuff worked out with out having to pay too much more. If not I will see you in September!

No offense to our great TA's but this is how we booked our family cruise and had absolutely no problems at all. In fact, he went out of his way to make sure everything was perfect for us....and it was

ok well you could possibly be able to salvage some of your money back If you had known about it a bit ago. Sadly carnivals cancellation policy for 6,7, and 8 day cruise is as follows:

up to 76 days: No penalties
75 to 30 days: Deposit
29 to 8 days: %50 of total fare
7 days or less: %100 of total fare

However i have seen it done where an agent, even myself has gotten a client deposit back less than a month from sailing. It just takes a determined agent. However it seems like your "TA" is not very competent, so best bet would be to give carnival a call, explain your situation and ask what you can do. In all hopes that the "TA" gave you your reservation number. Personally i would contact her agency and report the entire situation, I'm sure the business owner wouldn't tolerate this type of conduct. And just an FYI MOST travel agents charge you the same rate as the cruise lines do. It just offers you a chance to have interpersonal contact. So next check out your local travel agency and see what they can do for you.

The only thing we got from her was a printed off guest confirmation mailed to us in mid June (we booked in May) showing what was still due. We did not get anything from Carnival itself (maybe b/c we just put a deposit down and did not pay in full until this week). The paper we got from her DID have a sailing date on it at the very top in the teeniest of prints (which I guess I COULD have noticed if I had read every single line on that page, but I did not). We only realized it when we tried to book the excursions and my friend asked the TA why her cruise # (that we just got) did not work.

Lesson learned! I will not rely on others to book things as important as my cruise and I will just use a Carnival cruise agent. I spoke to one on the phone and he was super nice, but he said he couldn't help out b/c he was in the "individual" area, not the TA area. Whatever that means.

Thanks to everyone for your help. I REALLLLLY wish that this would have happened to someone else before and they had discovered some magic wand I could waive and fix it all.

On that note, what do you guys think the major difference will be in sailing in late Sept vs late Aug? Less crowded? More rain? Less kids?

amh777,
I am so sorry that your wonderful cruise is starting off with such aggrevation. The only bit of encouragement I can give you is in my favorite Bible verse, which is also my signature on this board and all of my emails. So if you end up going in Sept. it will be because something wonderful will happen, that would not have happened in August. It could be the loud music and partying coming from the cabin that would have been next door that you missed. Or it could be that fantastic people who will be your dining companions who you would not have met in Aug. It could be a disaster that was avoided that you'll never know about, because the life that was save wasn't even anyone you knew. But had you been there in Aug it would have happened. Who knows. I just believe Romans 8:28 to be true with all my heart.

Well, I guess I am having no choice but to sail in Sept. Everyone else who is travelling w/ us has now adjusted their schedules to the Sept date. On the positive side, at least we have more time to get money saved! Its a major bummer, but maybe it will be less full at this time....who knows.

disclaimer: not a weather expert

however, I will say more storms are usually out & about during the end of August versus the end of Sept - ' key word ' USUALLY

also end of August is usually jammed with the last minute vacations - September not soo jammed.

FYI: keep an eye on your pricing; if you see the pricing drop for the Sept date; make sure you get credits/refunds for the price difference.
