Default Ladies-Let's talk shoes

Okay, getting everthing together, less than 30 days till I cruise. Have my wardrobe planned with the exception of shoes. So let's talk shoes. I have some canvis tennis shoe mules, you know without the back, that I will wear around the pool for casual times. I plan on taking my tennis shoes so that I can wear them on the excursions since they are comfy. But I am having a problem with the shoes for dinner and dancing. I have a pair of slides that have about an inch and a half chunky sturdy heel. I wear them a work all the time and they are comfy. They are not very dressy but they are okay, black satiny material across the top from toes to to instep. But is the heel to high for the ship? I also have a pair of strappy pewter sandals that I was going to take for formal night but they have a thinner high heel. But man they look great with my dress. I would not wear them to dinner since they are not the most comfortable shoes in the world. I just was not sure if I wanted to take four pairs of shoes. Any advice ladies?

I'm bringing 4 pairs of shoes along. I'll be arriving in and wearing comfy sneakers for excursions, flip flops for days on the ship, black low-heeled pumps for formal night, and flat white sandals with gold accents in case we eat in the dining room any other night, in which case I'd wear capris.

I would say one pair of short/thick heeled black sandals or pumps will do. That can double for formal night as well as casual nights in the dining room with capris, skirts and pants.

O.K. I am the Epitome of shoe addiction.

I have shoes and purses to match every outfit I own. (I have lots of clothes) For the sake of space, I leave the purses at home when I cruise. However, I feel my shoes are entitled to cruise with me. I have taken as many as 10-12 pairs of sandals and sneakers with me on my cruises. On my last cruise, the smaller of my two suitcases were nothing but sandals and sneakers. I take two pairs of sneakers in case one pair gets wet on an excursion. It takes forever for sneakers to dry properly.

I do not wear heels ever so all of my sandals are either slides or t-strap sandals and do not take up too much space in my suitcase or closets.

Bring what you are comfortable with. If you can walk in heels easily, then wearing them around the ship will be no problem.

If you are not flying then just take what you want to wear and don't worry about space. I say take the thin heel pair, because you will probably regret it if you don't, and will be sitting at dinner wishing you had brought the shoes. : )

I have been thinking about this too!! I have no trouble selecting which shoes to take for business trips but so far my thoughts for our up coming cruise are, no sneakers they take up too much room and I don't plan to hike anywhere :-) So its gonna be 2 pairs of flip flops, one for ship one for beach excursions and boat trips. One pair of black high heeled sandals for formal nights, one more casual sandal and one pair of mules, taking only black and brown as it will match most of my clothing and that way I only take two little purses for the evenings. Its hard as I have a ton of shoes all different colors but from these board I have learnt that you never wear all that you pack.

I am making it easy for myself. I am bringing two pairs of sandals and I just bought a pair of thongs (ok, I still use the term I grw up with and I won't use the word "flip flops" cuz they are thongs, not flip flops. I will bring one pair of "dressy" boots I have had for at least 15 or 16 years (and still love00ne day they will come back in style again!). I will be leaving my running shoes at home because I only wore them getting to Miami and going home.

I don't do high heels, a 1" heel is enough to make me walk carefully!!!!

I have the world's most abused feet and as a result cannot tolerate most "dress shoes". Naturalizer and Dr. Scholl has come out with some very comfortable dress sandals I can deal with nicely though. On a cruise I ALWAYS choose comfort in the footwear department. I find that after I have had rich food for dinner and a glass or two of wine, my feet will swell and that long walk back to the cabin can be unbearable. Plus one thing I do lots of on a cruise is walking, so why torture myself.

I have flat feet, bone spurs and plantar fasciaitis and must wear orthotics or I am miserable. I must baby my tootsies or they get even with me.

Beenie Weenie, same here with the mean feet. I have so many comfy shoes that I have for standing on concrete convention floors while "showing", but my good old standby's for casual are "good" flip flops and they are pretty dressy with all the sequins and beading and I can take 3-4 colors as they don't take much space.

A good pair of low heeled pumps for formal nights. I do better walking in flip flops than anything as long as they are good ones.

I found some white (all white) water shoes on the internet a few days ago and forgot to bookmark... oh well.. more surfing.

I have my entire cruise wardrobe all from ebay (no time for shopping here) so just a few odds and ends to pick up and I am done.

And then after we get back from cruise, I am going into E-hab ! ! !

Bwood Go to Sears, they have Lands End Water Shoes and they are great, I can even wear my custom orthotics (waterproof) with them. It absolutely saves my feet and they double as athletic shoes too and are comfy to walk in

Doesn't everyone take a suitcase devoted to shoes?

Glad to see that I am not alone in devoting more time and energy to this wardrobe than I do to my work wardrobe. Unfortunaltely, I do not do good with flip flops or anything between my toes due to scar tissue from childhood injuries. I did decide to take the four pairs of shoes since I will probably regret not having that dressy pair. Now to get to the jewelry selection (just kidding).

Cejay, you are NOT alone.... definately NOT alone.

My DH says he is going to sedate me if I don't chill out a little, lol....

And as I have said before, may have to go into E-hab ! ! !

Too much ebaying..... but lot's of cute cute stuff and really cheap and no shopping in the heat and crowds....

Bwood, I have never bought a lot from e-bay, although I have found myself lurking and looking at shoes and clothes. This cruise might make me take the plunge and shop till I drop there. I know my hubby has told me that he does not understand why I need some new shorts and capri's. "Just take what you wear around the house" he says. Well, that stuff is old and faded and crappy looking. So a yard sale is in order and I will use those funds to purchase new clothes.

I have never bought shoes through ebay as I HAVE to try those on, and even then it's no guarantee that they will not hurt.

However, if very careful, you can get some great deals on clothes and accessories.

I ONLY buy from those with at least 99% feedback, and I measure my favorite fitting garments and go by that. If the item I am looking at does not list measurements (or the seller will not give them) I don't buy.

So far I have not received anything that didn't fit well or was stained or torn or anything.

I even got my hubby 3 really nice NWT (new with tags) tropical shirts for less than $25 inc shipping. Got them yesterday and they are great, so now he his getting to be a junkie also.

I have now gotten nearly my entire cruise wardrobe for less than $100 and it's all new and pretty and will be good for later also. We live on the lake, so swimwear/casual is always a good thing around here.

We have 3 balcony cabins for our bunch and I am sort of the family "cruise director" as I am the only one who is willing to do it.

I got some great travel alarm/nightlight/thermometer units for about $6 bucks each (3) and the seller combined shipping so they ended up being about $7 each. Could not have done better at Walmart probably. And they will be good for travel later as we all travel a lot, just our first cruise.

Also, the new Squid power "strip" is available there cheap and these are great, too !

Bwood, thanks for the tips and I will definetly use them. I have seen some pretty good deals on E-bay but was afraid of the size issue. But since you mentioned the measuring I will be able to ignore the "size". I have bought books and some odds and ends and never had a problem. My hubby purchases and sells computer parts and loves it.
I personally hate to shop, I know I am not a regular American female, but it is mostly due to long lines and unhelpful associates. I HATE Wal-Mart and will do anything to keep from going into that store.

I bring probably 5-7 prs of shoes.

Flip Flops for the Pool
Spinning Shoes for the Spin Class
Four Prs of heels for various nights
Tennis Shoes for Gym

Most port days I just wear my flip flops. They are comfy and easy to wear and put in a bag if I am on the beach.

flip flops, sandals, strappy sandals, sneakers, these are all required.
so I always take a minimum of 4 pairs ....I have taken up to 8 pairs ....

I usually take flip flops in a variety of colors.

yeppers, they make em in such pretty styles and colors now that it's hard to resist.

I have pretty beaded/sequined pairs in nearly every color hanging in a rack on the closet door. Wish I could just roll it up and take em all.

But DH would laugh and might refuse to load luggage.... I have told him he only has to load it here at the house and then unload it when we get home. Everywhere else, we can get someone to do it for us.

At 54, if you can't afford a tip to the porter at the airport, then you need to stay home... (just my motto, anyway)

But really, flip flops will get you nearly anywhere.... funny thing is, one trip right after the shoe bomber thing, on a flight from Dallas to DC, I wore flip flops thinking they wouldn't make me take them off. Well, they let the guys with big thick shoes get on without taking off their shoes, but the 50 year old fat woman had to have her flip flops xrayed. You just never know .....

I can't wear flip flops because my feet are so tickleish and sensitive that the thingy that goes between your toes drives me crazy

Therefore, I have t-strap flat sandals in every imaginable color and shade. Also I have a full collection of slides. I bring those (all of them almost) with me on my cruise. When I wear my orange sundress, I want to wear my orange t-straps. Have to bring them. When I wear my lime green sundress, I need my lime green t-straps. When I wear my torquoise outfit for dinner, the torquoise slides are required. Gotta pack them also. Fucshia capri outfits requires fuschia slides. Black and white shorts, now where are my black and white Bozo the Clown sneakers? Can't leave them home.

And so it goes on and on and on. How people manage to just bring a black pair and a brown pair is a level of personal sacrifice I aspire to achieve. For now, it is just another suitcase to hold the sandals, slides, sneakers and slippers. Last cruise it was 10-12 pair. To be honest, I didn't wear all of them. Never wore the sneakers. But, had I needed them and left them home. . . . . . I shutter at the thought

IB, somehow I know just how you feel.

I pack TWO big rolling suitcases for a trip to Houston just a couple of hours away, full of stores and only staying a couple of days.

I shudder to think what my bags for this cruise will be like !

Good thing I have a digital fish scale to weigh bags with, or of course, I could just pay the overage like I did one time before. I was a few pounds over in one bag but it just did not seem worth the $25 to unload it all right there in the baggage check and repack it.

My sis in law is worse than I am, if that can be imagined. She goes to Puerto Vallarta about twice a year and goes to Bucerios (sp) shopping. Then, because she is right at her baggage weight limit already, she ships her purchases to Texas ! ! ! Go figure.

I think I can manage to get all my stuff in 150 lbs worth of suitcases, and that leaves me with ONE to spare for the trip home. Plus my laptop case and his carry on. And of course, I have been known to have a pretty BIG purse too. They checked my flip flops, but they never questioned why I needed such a BIG purse. Xrayed it, yes, but other than that, no problem. Guess there are just some things that ARE still sacred. Don't mess with a BIG woman's BIG purse.

yall all have a good one...

Well you definately have my attention when you talk about shoes. They are my weakness. I KNOW that is why my luggage is so heavy. I like to have a pair of shoes to match each outfit (especially for the formal nights, and we do formal every night, only more for the "main" nights).

I do wear the "high" slim heels for the "main" formal nights. As I know I will not be walking much, I wear them to dinner, and then if we decide to do something else later, I change into other shoes.

Hey Phil & Liz, WOW what "gorgeous shoes" and they do double duty as swim flippers. Just think of the space saved. I bet they have them in every color to coordinate with the outfit. Okay, I'm kidding, really.

I hate shoes, my feet hate shoes. I take as few shoes as possible with me. Sneakers are my favorite. Don't like flip-flops, I walk right out of slides, heels kill my feet. The perfect shoe is "barefeet".

I refuse to sacrifice my shoes! I have taken as many as 13 pair for a 7 day cruise! The one time I limited my shoes to 5 pair, I hated it! I got tired of wearing the shoes that I brought. Since I do all the packing, my DH doesn't realize that one bag is nothing but shoes! I have my strappy sandals, I have my flippy sandals, I have my flip-flops, I have my walking shoes, I have my heels.... black, brown, lime green!

You and I are kindred spirits. I have to have black t-straps, black slides, black pool shoes. I have to have lime, orange, gold, white, black, blue and red t-straps. I need black, blue, white, orange, lime, fuschia, and torquoise slides. I need at least three pairs of sneakers (one pair are pink to match my pink sundress), two pairs of pool/beach shoes.

However, what I sacrifice is . . . . . (insert drumroll here). . . . house slippers. As a sacrifice and to keep me humble, I leave the house slippers home and just use one of the pairs of slides as house slippers.

i brought like 8 or 9 pairs of shoes in April on the Victory...yes, I went a bit overboard, but i sure looked good! lol but i have this amazing uncanny ability to run in heels like they are Nike's...so if you aren't comfortable, one pair of dressy shoes that match everything and a pair of flip flops for the pool are all you really need good luck!

Well I seeeeeee , shoes can really be a GOOD subject to talk about. They are my "weakness." I buy shoes and then put them away, and maybe 6 or 9 months later, I will buy an outfit, and "discover" that the shoes I had put away, NOW "match" what I just bought.
